I always stay in the Hotel Fantasia. Very central and run by a husband and wife who are very friendly
I have also found it to be the most reasonable priced hotel in the centre |

This is on an island with Cenraal Station 20 mins away by tram. It is mainly for camping but there are chalets for rent from €30 a day. There are goats, ducks and lambs roaming around the site, a bar, internet access, a launderette and a mini mart.
Recommended strongly. |

At the train station in Amsterdam there is a kiosk that helps you find cheap (and safe) lodging. The cheapest places don't have websites and advertising. If you are going in July or August, you may be wise to pay more and get guaranteed lodging in advance.
If i couldn't find a place, i slept on the train overnight. That works best in 1st class. |

Amsterdam is not that big 20-30 mins walk from one end to the other, so it doesn't really matter were you stay.
Try doing a net search for the cheapest. I have been lots of times and stayed in lots of different accommodation's and they have always been of an acceptable standard. I always go for the cheapest.
Try different sites:-
Here's one to start you off

Ps. Visit the Comedy Cafe in the south end of the city (It's a 'who's line is it anyway' type place. |

I've also stayed at the Damrak, and was pretty happy with it.
I've also stayed at the Quentin Hotel just off the Leidesplein. Reasonable prices, small rooms. Try to get one that includes its own toilet/shower. |

Much cheaper than a hotel: rent a vacation home in central Amsterdam!
This site has a lot of houses in the netherlands/amsterdam:

The cheapest you will find is to stay in Hostels.
I've stayed at a place called The Flying Pig about 3 time whenever I went up to Amsterdam. Check it out! |
