I have been and thought it was fab although it is full of stag do's. I would suggest that if you want to avoid the stag do's don' t go at the weekend. Other than that it is a lovely city.

I stayed in the Hotel Julian which I would highly recommend, it's on the opposite side of the river from Wenceslas Square but the trams are easy to travel round on and see everything. Fab Italian restaurant round the corner from hotel too.

Lovely architecture to see and shopping is fab, expecially if you like Shoes.

I took a tram in the opposite direction from the river at my hotel and found a huge and very good shopping centre.

Enjoy!!!

We went in August and really enjoyed it.

A few tips:

Don't take any tours from anywhere other than an office or as recommended by the hotel - the touts in the square rip you off. (Yep we got stung)

You can buy 1, 3, 7 day passes on the public transport (includes trams buses and metro) and they are really cheap and easy to use.

Beware of pickpockets,

Don't trust the staff in the hotels - we had an incident with a wallet.

Taxis - don't take them from the main squares they are very expensive. The rates are on the sides of the taxis - check that before you take one. Ask how much to get to your destination before you get in and if too expensive look for another.

The cafes around the astronomical clock have good food but there are lots of other places too.

Wenceslas Square isn't a square its more of a very long boulevard.

Walk around and explore its almost impossible to get lost as all you need to do is follow the crowds when you want to get back to somewhere you recognise.

Don't go walking in high heels - there are a LOT of cobbled streets.

Enjoy the holiday!

** We heard that there were a lot of stag do's but we didnt see evidence of any the whole time we were there.

Prague is a beautiful old city .. I used to go often there when it was under socialist rule.. It was fantastically cheap and famous for very good and cheap bear especially black bear, Residents of Prague love it and its history so much, so that in the day of the Russian occupation to Prague to prevent it from turning to the West people were weeping and raising the white flags so that their city will not be destroyed.

Its wonderful, i went for a weekend last year and was thrilled, the history, the shopping and the people all wonderful.

You must go if only for a weekend but wear comfy shoes you gotta walk round, take a boatride and visit the bridge...... fantastic.
It's not as cheap as it used to be though.

redsticks34
i loved the place, it was fantastic, so much history, you need to go and then get on some of the tours aruond the city
be warned though, it is quite a place for stag parties

Loved it. Went there with the husband for 9 days, had a lovely time, it's a really friendly city with gorgeous buildings, and very good food. It's also quite cheap to eat out, and the public transport is unbelievably cheap (€8 for a week pass for trams, metro and buses), taxis are not such a great idea because you might get ripped off, but the public transport system is very easy to use.

You can use your ATM cards for the local currency, many places also accept Euros (check first) and credit cards, and I'd also recommend learning how to say 'please', 'thank you' and 'do you speak English' in Czech, and I also found 'two beers please' to be a handy phrase to know. The Czechs love it if make that little extra effort, and will go out of their way to help you, we found.

One night spot we were really sorry not to be able to see more of was Tingl Tangl, which has a great drag show (if you're into that).

One guide that's really helpful, and has the phrases in the back, is the DK Eyewitness Guide. It also lists some places you can visit outside of Prague, and we went on a little trip into the countryside to one of the castles, very very nice it was too. We booked our flights and accommodation separately, and used www.hostelworld.com to find a budget hotel.

Regarded by many as one of Europe's most charming and beautiful cities, Prague has become the most popular travel destination in Central Europe along with Budapest and Vienna.

Prague has fifteen numbered districts: Praha 1 through to Praha 15. Praha 1 is the oldest part of the city, and has by far the densest number of attractions. It can be further subdivided into these quarters:

Castle (HradÄŤany) -- the highest point in Prague
Lesser Town (Malá Strana) -- the settlement around the castle
Old Town (Staré Město) -- the nucleus of the right bank
New Town (Nove Město) -- the fourteenth century district south of Old Town
Jewish Town (Josefov) -- the old Jewish ghetto

The airport is located about 20 kilometers outside the city center. It generally takes 30 to 50 minutes to get there.

Not as good as it was a few years ago - still cheap, but lots of American tourists and stag/hen dos...Although is very beautiful, especially round the river. Good bars, very very good vodka, not so good for vegetarians.
