You must go to the south and see Heidelberg, Konstanz, Freiburg, Nurnberg, Munich. In the south you can eat Weisswurst (Munich), Spaetzle (home made pasta, but unfortunately not so good in restaurants), Knoedel (made of potatoes), Zwiebelrostbraten (in Stuttgart, it is delicious rostbeef with onions), Currywurst (also in the area of Stuttgart, obviously sausage with curry sauce) - anyway, all kinds of sausages are excellent and any kind of beer is perfect (and cheap). If you go in the north in May - June, it is worth it to eat whitel Spargel (Asparagus).
You can find plenty of info on the internet, the german towns all have an internet site and in general the german internet has all information necessary. |

Hmmm well I am from Germany, but we don't eat Raw meat. There is one thing your friend might referr to, it's a spiced hamburger sort of meat you put on bread. That's not cooked.
It all depends what region you go to as well. We have many different cultures in Germany. I recommend trying Greek food while you are there. The Gyros we get served here is NOTHING compared to the stuff you get in Germany. It's the real thing.
I'm originally from Bavaria and there is a great dish called Sauerbraten, it's eaten with Potatoe Balls. You have to try some of that while you are over there. Its a Roast with a slightly sour taste to it (don't be discouraged of trying it though), The potatoe balls are a sort of dumpling made out of cooked and raw potatoes, that is cooked in water. Very deliscious.
If you have a sweet tooth, I would hit some of the bakeries over there as well. :)
I would def. search the web to find out more info about Germany. |

i grew up in germany, so i guess i really know germany :)
well, we don't really have a "national food", although the media will try to tell you that we live from eating dumplings and drinking beer. well, we don't ^^ italian food is actually rally popular in germany. and you will also find great asian restaurants and evn mcdonalds and so on. whatever you want, you can find it somehow.
ok, about the must see: depends on waht you're interested in, but i would say you have to have seen Berlin and Munich. also, you might want to see the alps and the sea (they're on different ends of germany, but who cares ;) ). must eat.... don't really know. but if you'll go to munich, eat in the hofbraeuhaus, they have traditional german food and all that.
more infos: look in google for "deutschland fuer touristen"; the sites that it will find will be in german, but they mostly have an english version, too. looking for the infos in german, however, makes sure that you will find reliable info.
hope that helped :) |

I was stationed in Germany and lived there for 15 years. The ice cream and deserts are to die for there! Bratkartoffeln (fried potatoes), curry wurst, bratwurst, schnitzel......all are wonderful! Oh and the beer! |

Different foods are popular in different parts of Germany. In the north west bratwurst or currywurst are very very popular. Saurkraut is eaten mostly in the south. This is only two examples, but you will find many difference in food throughout germany. They may all eat, say bratwurst, but it may be cooked differently in different regions.
It's all good, though!!! |
