They are basically a Slavic people, White Caucasian, but everyone knows that some Mongolian and Turk (both blood and culture) got mixed in.

Bluemoon
Russian people originated from Eastern Europe and they moved to the east quite recently. Even if many Russians live in the part of Asia, they are still ethnically European(the Slavs). It's like Chinese people who moved to Africa would be still ethnically Asian.

Or you could say, they are just Russians. (like White Americans who have European ancestry are simply Americans!)

No, we are not all Asian, half Asian or part Asian. 90% of Russians are European. I was born in central Siberia - part of the Asian/Eurasian continent. I'm 100% European. Siberia has more Russians than Asians. I don't know why they even bother calling it Asia/Eurasia. It should be part of the European continent. You will find Russians East to West, from Vladivostok to Moscow. Of course we have ethnic minorities like every other country, but they are a small percentage.

Москаль: Good answer.

no, they are white europeans...........at the eastern part of russia they may be more asian or a mix.

It depends on what do you mean by "Asians" and what do you mean by "Russians". If you mean the CITIZENS of RUssian Federation, than , yes, SOME of ethnical groups are Asians. If you mean Russian Ethnicity, than they can't be Asians any way. If you follow the comon logic, than Russian scientist working in Antarctica should be called Antarcticians! But they're still called Russian. By the way, Russia is a very unusual and unique country, it can't be seen just in one point of view. you need to note that a lot of thing are divided in Russia.

No,if frenchman will live in Asia would he be asian?

Why so cynical?
Sigh.

If you're asking about the race, then Russians are, ethnically, Slavs. Not 'Asian'. Asian continent does not make people 'look' asian!!

Naruto777
No the Russian race is caucasian.

English is not my first language but even for me is apparent that you cannot spell very well and are probably American so why do you care about such matters, just go back to the McDonalds and watch Rambo again. The answers you've received thus far are inaccurate and vague. "people from Vladivostok" are not "Asian" if one if defining Asian as some form of ethnic or racial construct, although there are some Korean and Chinese immigrants living there, they would qualify for this label. The territory of Russia that lies geographicaly in Asia has nothing to do with its inhabitants (mostly Indo-European Russians) ethnicity. The territory is Asian geographically. Ethnic Russians are what you would call in the Western world and specifically U.S., "white". We are East Slavs, a sub branch of ancient Indo European peoples. There are immigrants and indigenous people living in Russia, as there are in many lands that are not ethnic Russians and are non-white, mostly Turkic/Mongol varieties. I am from deep inside Russia's eastern territory and am a pale blonde Europid individual. For average modern American (probably you), you would never be able to distinguish a Russian from any other "white" person, were you to see one of us walking in public in USA.
-Summary: Ethnic Russians are "white" Indo European people regardless of where they are located geographically!

*EDIT* Since you say you are Vietnamese I detract my negativity and hostility. People often use the term "Asian" as a racial/ethnic construct. For instance, a Korean, Laotian, Chinese individual would be "Asian" under this social contruct of who is "Asian". Russians, however, although many residing in geographic Asia are not "Asian" under this racial/ethnic construct. They are still viewed ethnically/racially as European people. Does that make any sense?

No they are Caucasian named after the Caucus Mountain range that divides Europe Asia, and the Middle East.
The word Caucasus derives from Caucas, the mythological ancestor of the North Caucasians.[1] He was a son of Targamos, grandson of Biblical Noah's third son Japheth. According to legend, after the fall of the Tower of Babel and the division of humanity into different languages, Targamos settled with his sons Kartlos, Haos, Movakos, Lekos, Heros, Caucas, and Egros between two inaccessible mountains.

somebody
no, they are Slavic people who are native to north eastern europe while other Slavs like Serbs, Bosniaks, Croats...etc setteled in eastern europe.

russia is a very loose term. because russia is a "federation" it consists of many republics with many different cultures. over 100 languages and cultures exist in modern day russia. some of those are ethnic, khazaks, mongoloids, kalmyks etc and those are "middle asians" and they are asians, as they originated from mongolian tribes much like the chinese. BUt also there are ethnic russians (slavic peoples) who are not asians, they are russians. Russia is a vast land with many people and rescources, it covers i think 14% of the worlds landmass, so naturally there would be many ethnicities in russia. It is in both europe where 1/4 of its landmass lies and in asia where 3/4 of its landmass lies. Or it is on the massive continental shelf known as eurasia.

Depends on which part of the country their roots are from.

For instance, the people from Moscow are European. The people from Vladavastok would be Asian.
