Are Russians still poor, or much better these days?

How is the life quality/living standards in Russian (Moscow for example) nowadays? Is it still quite poor, or is there a great improvement from some 10 years ago?
Additional Details
Thank you. Could you be more specific, for example, how many families own cars? houses? What do they do on vacations? etc. etc. Just to have a picture of what life is like there as compared to other countries, economically speaking.

well my friends in Russia say they used to be extremely poor, and now they are poor.

papaja4
What do they do for a vacation? I work at 3*hotel in Prague and most of our guests are Russians, they're staying minimum of 10 nights and spending tons of money for Bohemian crystal and just typical Czech stuff here...Sometimes I wonder where they're taking money???
It's very strong country these days, not just economically but politically it became very strong.
What I know, some families they have two cars. But some of course don't have any.

Much, much better then 10 years ego, but still about 20 years behind the Western Europe. The hard line of president Putin did helped a lot.

The Russians you encounter abroad are the rich ones. Most of them are poor by western standards. But compared to 10 years ago, they are much better so they think they are better off. 10% of Russians are living the high life...

Dmitry
34 percent of Russian families have at least one car, while 3 percent - even several. Among Muscovites and Petersburgers car share higher - 42 percent

In 2007 he was abroad on holiday left 9.4 million Russian tourists.
The amount of the Russian tourists leaving abroad, will annually increase by 13 %-15 %.

PS I often workout in many cities of Russia. In almost all places over the past 5 years has improved the lives of real people.

Now in Russia exist so many millioners! Other people live good, too. I speak with some people last year from Moscow- doctors and engineers and they say, that now people there live much better. They buy homes in our seaside for the rest.

What do you mean by "poor"?
As far as I understand "poor" means when you have no money and therefore you have nothing to eat, nowhere to sleep and have no protection.
In this way, a lot of Russians in Nothern and Eastern part stay poor. For example, an Indian or Thai or Bangla tramp having no money CAN have some papayas from the tree and sleep right under that tree. But a tramp in Siberia during winter has to climb down into a well or an apartment-house basement for a night JUST TO STAY ALIVE

If you want to know how most of the people live in Russia you shall not include Moscow, because it' one of the most expensive cities in the world, so all "elite" live there. If you drive 10 hours away , the picture will be totally different. Life is not the same, in fact drastically different from the capital. And there are a lot of poor people, especially retired people, who can not work. Young people who can not create a family because they don't have place to live.... The conditions have not changed much, I am going there soon , so I will have a better picture.

Nina
well nowadays russians are very rich... there is no really poor people.. usual family: 2 cars, holidays like: spain, mauritius, turkey, france, italy (etc) most of the richest persons in the world are russians..... that girl is right... moscow is the most expensive city in the world right now.. so Moscow people are REALLY rich lol but if you will go 2 a village or a small town life there is totally not like that... :(
