Bob V's answer is very good but there is one problem with it. In our majority we are so unbelievably mixed, you can't imagine.

Because of that mix, there are a lot of beautiful people in Turkey.

Turkey borders Syria, Iraq and Iran. People from those regions tend to be predominantly middle-eastern in characteristics.

Turkey also borders the Mediterranean. People from Antalya, Bodrum, Marmaris etc generally have Mediterranean characteristics.

Turkey also borders the Black Sea and the Caucasus, people from those regions are neither Mediterranean nor middle-eastern.

- they are all Turks!

Turkey is a large and diverse country. You can find dark hair, red hair, blonde hair; brown eyes, hazel eyes, blue eyes, green eyes; and any combination. I love Turkey, partly for its diversity.

daddy cool
We are Medimiddleastanatolian.

Any problem with that?

A piece of the Moon and a piece of the Sun fell down on Earth, as meteorites, 7000 years ago, and they both crashed down exactly in the same place : Altay mountains, in Central Asia...Some humanoîds got out of the cratere of the crash, despite of the fire : The Turks.

That's why we cannot be considered as Mediterannean nor Middle Eastern nor European, because we come from Outer Space, and that explains the Moon/Star symbol...

Çetin
Hi,
we are Anatolian.

We have all the qualities of the Central Asians, the Europeans, the Mediterraneans, the Caucasians, the Middle-Easterners, and the result is so sublime, huh?

Actually, each of these "groups" have serious reasons for being jealous of us...

Turkey is a country on 2 continents - Europe and Asia so it depends on whereabouts in turkey someone is from.

The problem lies in the perception of the terms "Mediterranean" and "Middle Eastern", which are wrongly assumed by many to be mutually exclusive with each other. Take Tunisia for instance, culturally they are Middle Easterners, the country itself belongs to North Africa but it is also Mediterranean. So the term 'Mediterranean' is not solely used to define countries like Italy, Malta, Spain or Portugal. Your question is elusive to start with.

Turkish people, as you might have gathered by this time from the answers given, do not classify themselves by any kind of cultural -Middle Eastern- or 'geographical' -Mediterranean- identity, other than "Turkish".

The Caveman! Çok Deli!
It depends who you ask, on Yahoo! answers they are European.
To me... They's Turkish, I can't really group them with nobody else!

Totally Blunt
Eurasian. I don't know where Middle East enters the equation.

Woooolfff
It depends on the region.

Turks in Western Anatolia in places like Izmir, Antalya or Marmaris are Mediterraneans. Turks in Van, Sanli Urfa, Adana, Diyarbakir etc are Middle Eastern. Turks in Posof, Artvin and Kars are Caucasus people, Turks from the Black Sea region have their own culture, while those from Istanbul, Edirne, Tekirday, Ipsala etc are Balkanic.

100
I think they consider themselves European.
