Are pickpocketing gypsy gangs now operating all over Europe?

Read on and be shocked.

I've seen them charge for parking. Usually a little kid will ask you to give him a quid or two to "keep an eye" on your car. Meaning if you dont pay he'll likely scratch it.

I've seen them stop kids and take their watches, do the usual small-time thievery, nothing too complex and pick on children or the elderly and often in threatening groups. They don't operate alone.

The most SHOCKING tale was when I was visiting Romania. A gypsy man apparently, I could not tell left a bus in a hurry and was immediately surrounded by lots of shouting men who were hitting him and mobbing him. At first it looked like a scene out of a movie.

Then a gypsy woman with a colorful dress and head-wrap, the uniform of the Roma, followed out of the bus screaming bloody murder and waving her baby infant. That picture right there made me sick to my stomach. She was wielding her baby threatening to hit the mob attacking her man.

I am guessing he may have pulled the ol' artful dodger and got caught. Anyway, you don't want to ever see a woman waving a child above her head wildly, trust me. An English-speaker told me that gypsy women have hit people with their babies before, which having just seen what I'd seen, seemed suddenly more believable.

I've heard news they've sold their babies for organs, that they let child-molesters from Holland or Germany have their way with their kids for a fee.

These people seem shocking to me!

I guess we're lucky in Lye. We have a handful of Roma selling Big Issue and that is about it. I always find them fascinating. Most speak three or four languages, including Roma itself, which is a dialect of Hindi. As usual, they put the British to shame, who, round Dudley, have a real problem Eeeenglish. The Roma are matey and very appreciative if you give them a quid or two. Need less to say, when I gave a local ÂŁ20 to save her butt from being arrested, this doxy of the Black Country forgot to repay me. So, I speak as I find. Deport ther Yampies and settle the Roma here!!

When I was in Spain one time I was going to see the Alhambra and a bunch of Gipsies were charging money for parking and I refused to pay. When we got to the end of the line they had just taken over someone else's field.

A mate of mine was in Krakow during the Communist days and had his pocket picked. He shouted 'Police', and every other person in the street came running.

Honestly, I live in Prague and it's not that bad except for a few spots full of tourists. And if you watch after your stuff, you're OK.

This is not new news... Sadly, Gypsies have had a tough go of it because of extreme racial prejudice in Europe. Survival dictates that they do what they have to do. Thievery and mobility is part of a way of life.

However, these groups often have fantastic musical talent, healing skills, and skills in animal handling. Centuries ago gypsies are believed to have migrated from India. Today's gypsy people often include blue haired and fair skinned people. They live in all parts of the world.

I think we ought to focus on what they can contribute culturally. They have some rich contributions to make to an otherwise sterile culture.

I took a picture of a gypsy woman and I refused to pay her when she asked for money. She flicked her hand. An hour later when I tried to change the film, the camera exploded and I lost all images on the roll. It's called karma.

Take your pick-pocket loss as a lesson of impermanence. Nothing lasts for ever. Don't get attached to anything. Nothing material is integral.

I suspect you picked up some positive karma by contributing (even unwillingly) to the gypsy culture.
