The plain answer to your question, bro, is YES
Increasing number of Turkish living in Turkey disfavor the idea of Turkey's memberhip to EU.
... and I guess the fanatic Europeans must be happy about it
I wonder why the Turkish government decides for a referandum to decide whether or not Turkey should continue its efforts to join the EU. |

Yes there are LOTS of Turkish people including me are definetely rejecting to join the EU. We DO NOT want to be a part of EU. and the funny thing is many europeans thinks we are dying to join the EU. It's NOT true.We do know what we are, who we are. We DO NOT need 'em in fact they NEED us. |

EU has a lot of problems like unemployment;economy,education,health...
Besides they ask many things to Turkey and they are not even applying these rules they ask to Turkey.
Turkey is not any different than any European country.
So i really don't see Turkey in all those problems.
We can talk again when they start acting reasonably (look at all the new countries they took some of them are still in middle ages) |

We are not a Third-World country.
Europeans should beg us on their knees to make us join their union...But I refuse to belong to this "christian club", sorry. |

look who's talkin' Alana....The more they seem to get rejected
by the EU the more they persist in joining
Seems like nobody likes you in here "Travel > Europe (Continental) > Turkey" and why do you persist in joining? |

I am one of them. Nothing can change my mind, NO NO NO to eu.
You should ask "Are there any Turkish people supporting Turkey's accession to EU" rather than this question, it would be more appropriate :) |

I am not Turkish but also from a country pending EU membership! I would not want to join if I were Turkish - the EU has overdone it with their demands - they obviously don't want the Turks to join and I don't think the Turks should be beging anyone for anything! Turkey is a great and large country and it will prosper even if it is not in the EU! |

All the spoiled behaviour of the statelings within the EU aside, I am disillusioned with the lack of principle of the EU members.
They critisize Turkey about free speech, but they cannot do anything when France and Belgium outlaws speech againts the fake genocide claims.
They critisize Turkey about lack of rights, then somebody causes many immigrant deaths while chasing them and nobody raises his/her voice.
They critisize when an illegal demonstration is stopped, but nobody says anything when EU police cracks the heads of young people in demonstration.
They think insulting somebody's religion is free speech.
I don't know. I have learned that EU isn't as civilized as it wants others to think it is. I have come to believe we can do better.
They can live in the stagnant pond that is the future of EU all by themselves. |

My dear younger friends,
PLEASE see beyond the petty sovereignties of today and hope that one day the borders that separate peoples will cease to exist.
No man is an island, no "coutry" is one either. |

oh come on my friend this is a political issue.of course lots of ppl will say no EU.Anyway we should look EU law and the procedure of being a member and EU member satate's leaders and people different perspective.First of all no matter all european people say we have legal rights to be a member. However, politicians are playing to their community.Because of that discrimination in the process of being a member is happening only and first, for us for Turkey.
On the other hand this is our mistake. We gave our european friends to discuss and critisize our law, people, government, history, army ...We should understand why europe and people in europe are so afraid of our membership.
I think we all know our potential so no need to say how good we are.But also we have serious problems like human rights, democracy, freedom of speech and some legislative problems. The problems that we can not regulate these right very well.If we understand the source of these problems and if we become remember being one as a nation,we won't need EU at the perspective of law, social, educational, enviromental issues. No need to say economical cause we are the exception as of all us know.We are the member of customs union even we are not the member. This is a one way treatment, discrimination.Anyway we have far far away to adopt and put into practice the rules of EU.We must be patient all of criticisms about our beatiful country till we have the fundamentals of being a member of EU. |

I definitely am. We have been rapidly improving on all fronts
and are going to have our first German and British immigrants for working reasons soon. I suppose in about 8 years the EU will be begging Turkey to join, like they have been doing it with Norway and Switzerland. And so far the only thing the EU seems to demand is more and more rights for Christian minorities. They have pulled arm pits of Europe (Bulgaria, Romania etc.) right in front of our noses into the EU and have been telling us to wait. Wait for what? |
|

Qu'est ce que tu pense?

I think Turkey is better off not joining. The EU is nothing more but a group of popular kids in high school. They may look successful now, but later they will end up to be nothing. |

I don't want my country to receive "advice" and "suggestions" from countries who don't even respect our culture.
I say NO too, even though I am actually a Turk who grew up in France and who keeps living in Paris.
The only positive aspect of the joining would be probably an improvement of our economy in a couples of years ( as Spain and Portugal spectacularly grew up after having joined EU in 1986 ).
But anyway, we don't need it, because we will improve our economic strength by ourselves,on our own. It will take a long time, but in fact we have already caught up some EU countries regarding commercial balance and income per capita.
The real estate in Turkey is even getting the same price level of the Western Europe ( unfortunately ).
And concerning the defense sector, we don't need any further group. We have the 2nd most numerous army of the NATO, and everyone knows that attacking Turkey will be like committing a suicide.
By the way, if little countries such as Switzerland and Israel don't belong to EU and anyway manage to have a relative economic health, so why should koskocaman Turkey worry about joining the EU ? |

Turks are no stranger to rejection.
The more they seem to get rejected
by the EU the more they persist in
joining. It is apparent that they are all
oblivious to the ramifications of
being rejected. They are not wanted
simply as that. Instead of being continually
humiliated by this rejection, why don't they
try a little reflection for a change. |

Who knows? Since it will give them easy access to all the other EU countries and Britain's welfare system I don't suppose many will reject joining, unfortunately. |
