Are tank tops ok to wear in Poland?

Above gives a good answer but one strong piece of advice regarding clothing etiquette -- better not wear the sleeveless dress to Auschwitz, or put a blouse over it. When visiting sombre sites and entering places of worship, at least your shoulders down to your knees should be covered (add head covering and more leg covering if it happens to be Orthodox or Jewish).

But when you're having fun in Zakopane, wear and do whatever your good judgement says is OK (you know, the usual, treat others as you would have others treat you). Just remember to pack some layers if you plan to hike up in the Tatras even if it is 90F down in the valley -- the weather has been really crazy and you wouldn't want to be caught unprepared!

Of course that will be ok. The only thing is that you dress for the occassion. Like, if you're going out at night to a fancy place, a dress would be fine, but other things wouldn't. Understand? Also, try to look at what others are wearing around you to get a sense of what style you should wear. When you arrive in Poland, be obsurvent about what other people are wearing, and if anyone is looking at you weird for what you are wearing. Overall, people don't care much how you dress in Poland, as long as it is appropriate for the occassion. So, dress how you would like and have fun!

Edit: I for some reason read over Aushwitz. Like below says, do not wear sleeveless or too short dresses to places like that. There people that wear it, but it is disrespectful and you sometimes will get looks. Have fun!

Oh yeah, if you wear a tank top is fine, but depends where you will where it. If you wear a tank top to someone's funaral in Poland wouldnt be good. If you where a tank top to a 5-star restaurant and it is expensive, it would be best to wear something nice, like a dress. So it depends on the occasion.

no boiler suits and yellow wellies are the only accepted dresscode!oh and dont wash for approx 4 weeks before you go then you will be the height of fashion

I just find that they are sticklers about ironing everything...including their jeans. So if you are used to not doing things that particularly (like I am), bring clothes that will not require that much ironing, and be prepared to iron your jeans!

i just came back from 2 weeks in poland/estonia...they dress the same as "us"...maybe even more dressed up than the casual jeans and tees. i would dress more conservative when visiting churches and places like auschwitz. you don't have to be covered up, just maybe a shirt with short sleeves if it's warm and a pair of jeans/pants or capris. sandals/open toed shoes are ok. all i brought with me were dresses and skirts, and it was fine.

yea the dress sounds fine...but not to Auschwitz...i went last year...you should dress in something more apporpriate

and zakopane can be chilly...so bring a sweater = )

Of course it's OK to wear tank tops! Why not? Truth: It's perfectly normal.

Polish women do not dress as slutty as American woman do, but they aren't that modest. I agree with the other answer-ers. It depends on the situation. You might want to stay aways from really short dresses and skirts. Sleeveless would be okay, but spaghetti straps. tube tops, or halters may not be too appropriate. Have a nice trip!
