Are the electrical outlets different in Turkey than in America?

If so, is there some type of adapter I can purchase? I will be needing my hairdryer, straightener, laptop, and cell phone charger.

Not only are the plugs different but also the electric different. In the States the electric is 110 and here in turkey it is 220 so your hair dryer and straightener won't work here. Your laptop probably will and so will your phone, Most hotels have hair dryers so you don't have to worry about bring one.

Eclectic Mind
You need a plug adapter. Something like this:
http://international-electrical-supplies.com/turkey-plug-adapters.html an you can buy it from Wal-Mart, Target, Rogers..then you are fine.

Edit: The adapter also switches the voltage

fenerli
yeah they are in turkey they're like 2 small circles but in america they're lik 2 small rectangles. there is an adapter but i dont know where to get one. try best buy or radio shack

handsome
not just the outlets are different. Are your appliances compatible with 240V ?

noname
Adapter plug (3 pins in Turkey) and volt (220V in Turkey) is different but you can find a converter if you wanna bring your own stuff..

Yeah, they have different electrical outlets in Turkey. I don't think you will be able to buy an adapter here in Turkey, so my advice would be that you buy universal adapter in the States and bring it to Turkey. Apart from different electrical outlets they also have different voltage system in Turkey (220V). So, for your laptop it would be ok just to use the adapter (cause laptops convert voltage automatically), but your American hair-dryer may not work with only adapter so you will also have to purchase in the States voltage converter thing for small electrical appliances.

am truly astonished to see a notorious racist troll with obvious hatred and racist prejudice can ever ask a question like this...

even the most modest and calm users (non-Turkish) are irritated by the insolence exposed here by the trolls like alana and other racists.
Pls see the question http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r1LReBNJi2U&feature=related

your racist hatred takes you nowhere!
I beseech you to STOP RACISM and REPENT YOUR SINS
then our Lord Jesus Christ may save your soul

daddy cool
Your miserable and ridiculous trolling efforts aside,
the inherently wrong and vehemently misleading postulate of your question render us no chance for giving you a proper reply

but only leave us with the sole option to think that you're posing this meaningless question just to spread a baseless hatred

A clever friend of ours gave just the right answer to that question and the members of the community voted it for the BEST ANSWER.

I guess THAT answer goes for your question too
