Of course, those names, actually the turkish versions of those names, are very common in Turkey.
Our country is laic, but we are Muslims...And even if one is atheist or not pious, anyway those names are obviously an aspect of our culture.

@Dear CrazyGirl, I am not Kurdish, I am not from the East, and I am not islamist...Can you read my name?...Let's not generalize, please...

@Ipek, you are right, it seems that some people here have not enough knowledge.....How pity that even some of the ignorants are also Turkish....

edit : The Westerners keep having christian names such as John,Michael,Paul, etc , even if most of them never go to church nor have been baptized nor believe in the Bible...
That's cultural...

Yes. But I dont see those names that often. I guess you can mostly see them in the East. I met one Ahmet (not Ahmed) in my elemantary school. I met one Muhammed( not mohammed) in my middle school and I met one person whose middle name was Abdullah( not abdulla)
So they are common but not so much in big cities. They are more common with Kurdish families.
Other names of this kind such as Ibrahim, Mehmet, Kerim, Mustafa are common also.
You know our Cumhurbaskani( there is no title like that in English) is named Abdullah Gul. So there tou have an example :)
Edit: Hey, Im just saying what Ive witnessed.. Many families who are religious dont name their kids these names.. I just pointed out where they are more popular and common..

Mehmet, the Turkish version of Muhammed, is the most common name in Turkey, with more than 2 million Mehmets living in the country. It is sometimes used as the generic name for a Turkish male, similar to John in the US.

Ahmet, the Turkish version of Ahmed, is among the top 5 common names in Turkey.

Abdullah is less common than the above two, but still somewhat common, especially among people from Arabic descent. On a related note, The President of Turkey is Abdullah Gul.

As some have already noted, these names are less common among the younger generation and probably have a decreasing share in the population. Shorter names such as Emre, Arda, Can, Mert etc. have become more popular in the last couple decades.

They are common arabic names.

Yes those names are common in Turkey. Seen as Abdullah,Muhammed,Ahmet..Origins of these names are Arabian and Persian languages. Those names refer to Islam religion. There's no such thing as East, West, North or South part or big, little cities that you may see those names all around Turkey. And more common with religious families not Kurdish or Turkish ones..

Yes, they are.

Ahmed ( we write it as Ahmet) is one of the two most common names in Turkey where the second is Mehmet. They are both derived from the name of Prophet Mohammed (or Muhammet as we say).

EDIT : 10 thumbs down? Birileri hangi kulturde ve hangi ulkede yasadigini unutuyor sanirim. Sacmalamayalim.

Diniecita
I don't know really, but what's the deal with all the thumbs down? they had good information. unlike me...
