Yes, rather like the United States are in Mexico.
When are US peeps going to understand that this kind of ignorance ( sorry, but that is what it is ) gives a very odd impression to others, and remember that 'others' in this case means 95 % of the world's population that aren't US citizens.
Like the ignorance that, according to the US Servicemen's Protection Act, the President of the United States has already been empowered to invade the Netherlands ( an ally of the USA ) in the event that any US serviceman be arrested under the auspices of the ICC, that's the International Criminal Court, based in the Hague, Netherlands. This court was set up under the terms of the Geneva Convention to try primarily War Crimes cases.
Hmmm, I wonder why it would be necessary to invade an ally ? |

No! The Netherlands is a small country close to Germany and Belgium. The Netherlands is also called Holland and the capital is Amsterdam. There are 16 million people living there and the country is smaller than the State of Indiana. Pretty crowdy there! |

If you know your way into Yahoo Answers, how come you don't know your way into Google Search? Or into an atlas (which is by the way a book with lots of maps, showing all the continents and countries)
Germany and the Netherlands are two different countries, and their people speak different languages (amazing huh?)
Let me guess......... you're from the USA. Is that in Mexico? |

After having read the previous answers you should know by now that no, the Netherlands (adj./adv./n.: Dutch) and Germany (adj./adv./n.: German) aren't the same. What's also important -at least to Dutch people- is that Germany and the Netherlands (in full: the Sovereign Kingdom of the Netherlands) have always been involved in a kind of nationalist rivalry that culminates whenever there's a Netherlands vs. Germany soccer game on. Of course, the fact that the brutal German nazi regime occupied the Netherlands for five years during World War 2 didn't really do much to improve the relationship between these two nations either. |
