Of course there are turkey in turcia (turkey as a country). Turkey as a bird is element of turkish dish.
Note: Turkey as a bird once called " Turkey Bird" or "Turkey ****". Later the word "Bird" droped in the phrase then "tukey bird" became solely "Turkey" in daily usage.
As to why they called turkey turkey bird, this bird had been brought to England by merchants trading out of that area of the eastern Mediterranean called the Levant but whom the English called “Turkey merchants” because that whole area was then part of the Turkish empire. The new bird was therefore called a “Turkey bird”, or “Turkey ****”. |

Turkeys are native to North America. However, it is possible that domesticated turkeys are there as a food source. Couldn't find any evidence though. |
