Dear friend.

Armenian Genocide is a very sensitive topic in Turkey, Nationalists are threatening anyone who dares to talk about it or even questions the dark past of Ottoman empire. In the other hand government prosecutes historians, scholars, writers, and journalists for mentioning the Armenian Genocide.

They say leave it to historians... If the historians in Turkey are being sent to jail, get death threats daily, or even get killed, how do you expect there to be debate?? When Turkey has "filtered" all the evidence, and rewrited history in its favor, how is there going to be debate ?? Why cant people talk about it free?? Some of the popular victims of this is Orhan Pamuk, Elif Shafak, Taner Akcam, Hrant Dink.

"You have already been informed that the government... has decided to destroy completely all the indicated persons(Armenians) living in Turkey... Their existence must be terminated, however tragic the measures taken may be, and no regard must be paid to either age or sex, or to any scruples of conscience."

April 24, 1915 marks the darkest day in Armenia's 3000 years history.
A day that has left a deep scar in the hearts of Armenians worldwide. That day the Ottoman Turkish government began the systematic genocide of the Armenian people. By 1922, 1.5 million Armenians had been slaughtered. Decades have passed and yet the civilized world is now beginning to recognized and accept the facts about the Armenian Genocide and the Crimes committed by the Ottoman Turks in the forgotten Genocide of the 20th century.

Not every Turk denies, there are Turkish who really understands what is going on but again they have to keep pretending that they agree with the government , if not e a miserable life or no life at all ( if you know what I mean)

Why do you bother yourself here, it is point less

abrakadabra
im armenian - my family lived in Sivas before the genocide. i have heard many disgusting stories from the period. Turks are barbaric ppl, they are subhumans. They have killed not only armenians but every nation they have conquered

voltaire once said:

"We know no city built by them, they let decay the most beautiful establishments of Antiquity, they reign over ruins.

also, former british prime minister david lloyd george once said:

"The turks are a human cancer, a creeping agony in the flesh of the lands they misgovern

Im not very surprised that they dont recognize the genocide. They have been like that for all of history, and until the U.S. looks past its military ties with Turkey and faces the truth, Turkey will not budge an inch..

Even if they do recognize it, it will just be for international relations sake, turks inside turkey will still probably not be able to talk about it.

I've read both sides of the issue and I have my opinion. It's not necessary for me to say which side I am on, because it's only my business. I can tell you though that I'm not biased in my decisions and I evaluate them very carefully.

My ancestors fled from the Turkish army during Armenian Genocide. My uncle told me their amazing journey, it was unbelievable story of how a Armenian soldier helped them escape they had little or no belongings and they lost their baby son in the process.
I have so much respect for them.
I'm very surprised people don't think there was a genocide, just like the idiots who say their was no holocaust.

Wow so many many comments...just like to say thank you to my Armenian brother's and sister's not only on Yahoo Answers but worldwide for still fighting the horrific denial of the Genocide. The reality saddens me how the US will not accept it and its obvious to all of us its because of their military ties with the turkish government but all we can do is keep on fighting... 1915 STOP THE DENIAL

No, it is the same, we support the rational handling of historical events and facts, no distorted evidence like the andonian telegrams may be used to label a people as villains. Simply we don't trust the one sided views of armenian authors, about armenians being the angels and turks being the killers. But we must discuss more and more objectively because its the history of you and us.

???????? ?????
So much hatred in these people answering like nothing has happened. If you think that, that means you know NOTHING about this world. You people are just new to this world. 1.5 million people died in front of your eyes and you DON'T believe it happened. Wow... Wake up people!... If you don't see 1.5 million then I can't tell you anything else. To fight in war and win a battle is one thing. But to kill women and children, burn them and make them suffer is another. Well, like some of you said... Fact IS fact and you can do nothing to change it. These are the people whos grandfathers have been in it with mine...

You know what I find somewhat entertaining about the answers the Turkish people are giving? The fact that all the Turks which do not recognize the truth of the ARMENIAN GENOCIDE basically call their own ancestors liars....their own ancestors took the blame on themselves without formally recognizing the Armenian Genocide...now you're trying to tell us that it's a so-called "made up" "propaganda?" Seriously? Dear "Historians" the word GENOCIDE itself was made up to describe the inhuman killings which the Ottoman Empire's Turks were GUILTY of organizing against the Armenians.

So the next time you guys want to call the Armenian Genocide a myth...i suggest you don't make you and your ancestors look stupid. These Turkish cover-up lies have gotten way too old already, honestly.

CONCLUSION: TURKEY'S ANCESTORS ARE GUILTY OF THE ARMENIAN GENOCIDE!

No, even more strong no then the first day you have asked this question. There is no genocide and i hope people are going to stop thinking with prejudice and start to see the reality on your side also.
Unlike some who answer this question without any real research i make researches and i read, i listen to the Armenians who are living in Turkey.
So i tell you no.
Nobody can allow or forbid anything to us. You must be mixing us with another country. (Like in France which is claimed to be a free country, you can not even express your feelings. Well politicians and votes we all know that)

We have not been brainwashed by a one-sided propaganda so my answer is " NO ".
To the all others : How could you say that "Yes,it is since a friend of mine said it". That's absurd. If you were a judge, you would all be dismissed. This is nothing else but being one-sided and unjust. Before listening to the two sides, to make your own minds up about the issue show what kind of justice sensibility you have.

EDIT :

Are you aware of that Elif Şafak, Orhan Pamuk,... are all novelists but nothing else. If they know it was something as they claim, then why did not any of them show their proofs. They do not know the history. They are neither researchers nor anything like that.
Have they ever researched Ottoman achieves? The answer is "No". They have never done that.
Orhan Pamuk cannot even use modern Turkish properly, not to mention Ottoman Turkish.

PS Don't even bother asking "Didn't he win a Nobel?". Yes, he did but neither for his history nor Turkish knowledge.

He is a great writer. That's why he won a Nobel.

To tell "some Turks said it was" is also absurd. Do you know how many non-Turkish people said it was not a genocide?
Do you also know lots of them have been threatened or attacked because of their views on that. Even Turkish ambassadors were murdered with their families by ASALA.

Some of you ask "Why Armenians left Ottoman?" Ottoman made them left but that wasn't a genocide. It was a deportation. Do you think Ottoman authorities woke up and said " Lets make Armenians leave the country" or it was because Armenians betrayed the country and attacked Turkish villages.

World believed the USA when they claimed Iraq helped terrorists and had mass killing weapons. Did they? Now all the world know it was just a propaganda. The thing I try to tell
is "telling something is real does not make it real".

If you tell anything about Hrant Dink because I mentioned attacks towards innocents peoples who are ( were ) politician, historians and researchers; let me remind you that
the people did it were sentenced by a Turkish court while Armenia rewarded those terrorists.

**Why weren't anything until 1980s? Then all the attacks started by terrorists?

Four. That's the number of troll accounts that cause all this trouble in this section. Just look at the statistics. They are only four.

Four brainwashed, biased, ignorant kids who have nothing better to do until school term begins.

I feel like a fool, answering such foolish so-called questions.

Everything about them is so-called. Nicks, ideas, allegations, number of users... Why can't they just be earnest and frank? Is that a violation of the culture they say they uphold? Pity the real Armenians who try so hard to make a living to support the family.

anlarm
Ah I was wondering where you all went. So you are back with your ungrounded self-satisfying lies again. Why don't you ask Yahoo to open a page for you where you can puke your poison. I am sure you have friends working at yahoo. Isn't that why we get violations for just saying good morning?
By the way, since you believe Turks are so bad, ask your parents why they still speak Turkish at home? Why so many of them carry Turkish last names (ie. Kalaycian, Cezvecian etc.)?
I remember many Armenians here in Cyprus who all came from Anatolia. They were always very friendly towards us Turkish Cypriots. They never said anything about the so called genocide or any hardships. They were living here at that time under British rule. Who were afraid of? Why didn't they speak out back in the 1950s? Isn't it rather funny that you Armenians 'suddenly remembered' there was a genocide, in the 70s? Whoever your teachers were (Soviet Russia?) did they also tell you how your grandfathers burnt whole villages of Turkish people alive?
What do you hope to gain from this? You think that Turkey will apologize and pay you money or give you some of its land? If so, wake up from your dream before it turns into a nightmare. Learn to live in peace and harmony with your neighbors.

Funny thing about genocides is that even if they aren't called genocides doesn't change the fact that they are. Most people don't know about the Armenian Genocide in the western world. The only on they know is the Nazi one against the Jews. A little racially blind I think.....It isn't even talked about in history classes. But back to your question no my view point didn't change with the terming because I knew what it really was and what really happened (and is still happening on some levels).

our standpoint is the same
A lie is a lie... No matter how high and loud it is spoken

You know what?
Insistence on a lie (like you do) just fosters our determination and reminds us once again how right we are...

Nothing else..

Realist
OK, its not about caring about the issue, and its not about the Turks version, its about Genocide. The Turks fear the entire world accepting Turkey as a criminal country and not allowing them to ever commit those crimes again. You see the only ones who lose are the Turks. The ones who gain is the "entire world". Prevent future Genocides from happening by saying that they already did.

If you believed it happened then good for you but don't expect everyone to believe it just because and several on here do so. Why can't you just leave everything to historians and forge peace instead? Your actions along with your fellowmen doesn't make things better for the rest of you. This is all just an endless cycle of cutting and pasting from both sides to which unfortunately (since I've been here for sometime now) you Armenians are the provocateurs. Without you the Turks in this section don't even talk or make mention about you or Armenia.

Are you guys itching for a fight? Is that truly in your nature? Maybe there in lies the answer as to why you lost a lot of people during those days. You just don't know when to quit. You bug people hoping to get your way then cry foul to the rest of the world when they've had enough of all of you.
