Dear Selin.

After reading all the responses I came to a conclusion that you did not get the right answer from most of them.
I am Armenian. Armenians and Turks were living together and their families were bonded by Armenians marrying Turks. After the Armenian Genocide their families were ruined. Most genocide survivors had Turkish relatives who saved them.

In your situation its different, because long time has passed. The relationship depends on you and him ONLY. If you guys come to an understanding and accept the past then it should be OK. The reason that he might reject you is that Turkey does not accept responsibility and incites hate among the general population and fanatic nationalism in Turkey and in Armenia as well.

There is an 80% chance that he is a descendant of genocide survivor. I am sure you both have a lot in common because of the cultures. Good Luck.

I'm Turkish but...

I always tell this: Religion, nationality, skin colour, language, thoughts aren't important in love.Do u love him?Does he love u?Then, no problem! ;-)

Lol i am the most fanatical Armenian in the world and i am not afraid to admit it. Know this, we Armenians are very caring and understanding. If you treat us with respect we will treat you with respect. As for this boy, if he likes you and you like him your race will not bother him, but you have to watch what you say and what your parents say to him. And you best be prepared to accept the Armenian way of thinking, because in an Armenian family, the male is king

Dear Selin;

Take your chance and tell him the truth.if he really loves you ,that shouldn't a problem.if he makes trouble, you deserve a better bf than him ;-)
if he changes his mind when he heards that you are Turkish; don't worry.Never go out with a racist armenian!

PS to vaheh_2006: Naeem Beig is not even a Turkish name, you are lying again and again!!

Selin young lady, I have a question for you too. Well, more than one question :)
Are you and him in Turkey? How old are you both? Is this a 'puppy love' or the real thing?
Anyway, if he rejects you just because you are Turkish, then he is not worthy of your love. True love knows no boundaries. I just wonder what nationality and religion (color too) were Adam and Eve! Do you think that Adam asked Eve if she was Armenian or Greek or Japanese or African?
Ah so you are in the US. That does make a difference. People can act more freely over there, unless of course he was raised with a hatred for Turks. In that case you have no chance. Just forget about it. There will be other guys. But if he has a democratic, liberal mind then both of you have a good chance of being together happily. Good luck young lady :)

I think that it will be OK. Be open and sure that you are not carrying any chauvenistic attitudes with you (don't try to convince him of Turkey's official version of history), and hope that he will be as considerate.

ok artistic... you can't say that, cuz the whole world know s that turks did what we are sayin, and no one has the strength to tell the truth, becaouse USA was a part of it that's why they don't do anything. almost the whole Europe Recognized the Armenian Genocide. we don;t care what people in Turkey teach their children about the Armenian genocide, They tell them that Armenians did that to them for sure.
Just open your eyes, why would we yell to the whole world to recognize it if it didn't happen. we wouldn't have anything agains turks if they didn't kill 1,5000000 armenians.
honey what goes to your question, I don;t think you have a chance, maybe he thought that you'r armenian cuz turks sometimes look like armenians, but when he knows, he'll run away and find a true armenian girl for sure. sorry to say that. I don;t have anything against you, but that's how it is.

I am an Armenian from Iran too,
listen Selin, Armenians are not racist, we are all human beings. But " what Turks have done with Armenians makes them hateable for ever ".
This is what a Turkish officer - Naeem Beig - has said, who has seen the genocide himself in 1915.
He must really be CRAZY for you to forget about that you're Turkish.
Here in Iran not only Armenians but also other Iranians (Persians, Kurds, Gilakis etc which are Muslims) don't like Turks too much. They even don't like Azeris who call themselves Turks and have some Pan-Turkism thoughts under effercts of som ultra-nationalist Turkish groups ( such as gray wolves ). This is the situation in general. But I personally think that there can be peace and understanding among people, from different races and religions. If you saw that he doesn't look like friendly to you when he unterstood that you are Turk, forget about that because it will be going to make lots of problems for you, him and your families.
Let this deep wound be cured by time, I don't know when Armenians and Turks will be ready to be friends...
I am not hopeful I'll see that day...

To the racist Turks that think everyone is just like them:
Armenians are not racist at all. They just don't like racist Turks. But what about you???
You hate us, Greeks, Assyrians, all other Christians (even Pope), Kurds...
No one has forgotten what Ali Agca did, and just a month before something just the same happend in Maltaya... those priests I mean. That was not about Armenians right? You have problems with all the world.
Here in Iran, we see a lot of your friends(!) - Panturks in Iran, that recieve money from Turkey and Azerbayjan. We see how liked they are among other Muslims! We see that when they go to visit the historical places of old Persia, Takht-e-Jamshid, they write something on its walls!!!
This is not about Armenians, is it???

Some guys said that Naeem Beig ( نعيم بيگ ) is not a Turkish name. I have read that in a book by "Esmaeel Raeen" - a great Iranian historian. This book was published 35 years ago. In this book he has studied the genocide according to the history and specially to the Turkish refferences, which mostly were published in 1920's and 30's.
This writer ( Mr. Raeen ) was a fan of secularism and has had special respects to Reza Sha'ah and Ataturk, that they both wanted to bring secularism to their countrey.
Anyway,
He has taken those parts from this book :
"Memories of Naeem Beig" by Naeem Beig. I don't know if he was really Turk, but anyway he was an officer in Ottoman Empire. May be he was a Kurd, Arab or something else, because he was in Aleppo at that time.

To PEAR : NO ____________, HE IS NOT THAT!
( >>> fill it however you like to be called ! <<< )

I'm for peace Selin, with non-racists of course ;)
It's interesting for me what the result will be...

Wow, racism is flying from all sides. I'm neither Turkish nor Armenian, so I'll try to answer this question without resorting to racism, insults, or generalizations.

You and this boy are both in the U.S. It seems to me that this makes it far more likely that you would not be as deeply affected by racist tendencies as some of the people who have answered so far. Do you have a Turkish name? If so, maybe he already knows you're Turkish, and since he supposedly likes you, maybe he doesn't care. Also, since you're okay with him being Armenian, why don't you just try talking to him about it and asking him what he thinks about you being Turkish? You're a shining example of the fact that it is possible for people of ethnic backgrounds that have been embroiled in ethnic conflict to overcome those conflicts and see people as individuals. You didn't consciously choose to be Turkish any more than he consciously chose to be Armenian. Now you're both here in the U.S., supposedly the land of equal opportunity and civil rights for all, and you're at the same school, and you seem to like each other. Why not just try it out? Talk to him and see. As for what his family might think (and even what your family might think), cross that bridge when you come to it. If you really love each other, it won't matter what your families think, and eventually your families will learn to accept your decision.

If he really likes you, as someone else on here already said, he won't mind that you're Turkish. If it's a dealbreaker for him, then why would you want to be with a person like that anyway? Don't give up on him because you think he might not like you. Talk to him first.

Eve
Rating
You say it doesn't matter for you if he is Armenian, but the fact that the issue of origin ever came into question means something. Maybe you have a stereotype about Armenians.
If you really like him, just try to look at him as the person he is. The fact that you are Turkish and he is Armenian should not matter for both of you.
So, try to get rid of your own preconceptions and go for it!
No one can tell what will really happen ....

Trotsky vs Kerensky- НекIо!
Tell you're Turkish. But I am 100% sure that he'll no longer speak to you. My advice is find a green-eyed, olive skinned hot Turk and forget the curly haired Armenian. Is it too insensitive to advise this? Maybe so, maybe not.

OK, addition to this:

As you can see from some posts of the Armenians Selin, you have no chance sister:) Really, find someone else since he is an Armenians I don't think he is irresistible or heavenly handsome. I was(maybe 'am') in love with a Greek here in UK he had no problem with my origin and neither I did with his. But Armenians are very, very racist. Think going out with that guy -if you can-, he'll always speak of the so-called genocide or in your first fight he'll call you a 'bloody Turk'

I think you'll be fine together!
He sounds lovely. You sound lovely.
So, just go for it and see what happens?

If you're living in the US then the chances are that you're both fairly open minded to racism issues.

So, my advice go and talk to him, get his number, go out and have some fun. x

the answer to u questing is very simple. as long as the Turkish government denies what they have done to ARMENIANS, there always will be conflict, and problems.

why do u think we the ARMENIANS have survived
since 95-55 B.C.

my advise to you as a mother is stick with u own kind, do not ask for problems, because in any relationship it is not just the two partners who are involved, it is their families also.

yes they have been so many many love stories between Armenians and Turks, all of them end up in disaster.
FACT SHEET: ARMENIAN GENOCIDE
KNIGHTS OF VARTAN ARMENIAN RESEARCH CENTER
The University of Michigan-Dearborn
Dearborn, MI 48128

The Armenian Genocide was carried out by the "Young Turk" government of the Ottoman Empire in 1915-1916 (with subsidiaries to 1922-23). One and a half million Armenians were killed, out of a total of two and a half million Armenians in the Ottoman Empire.
Most Armenians in America are children or grandchildren of the survivors, although there are still many survivors amongst us.

Armenians all over the world commemorate this great tragedy on April 24, because it was on that day in 1915 when 300 Armenian leaders, writers, thinkers and professionals in Constantinople (present day Istanbul) were rounded up, deported and killed. Also on that day in Constantinople, 5,000 of the poorest Armenians were butchered in the streets and in their homes.

The Armenian Genocide was masterminded by the Central Committee of the Young Turk Party (Committee for Union and Progress [Ittihad ve Terakki Cemiyet, in Turkish]) which was dominated by Mehmed Talât [Pasha], Ismail Enver [Pasha], and Ahmed Djemal [Pasha]. They were a racist group whose ideology was articulated by Zia Gökalp, Dr. Mehmed Nazim, and Dr. Behaeddin Shakir.

The Armenian Genocide was directed by a Special Organization (Teshkilati Mahsusa) set up by the Committee of Union and Progress, which created special "butcher battalions," made up of violent criminals released from prison.

Some righteous Ottoman officials such as Celal, governor of Aleppo; Mazhar, governor of Ankara; and Reshid, governor of Kastamonu, were dismissed for not complying with the extermination campaign. Any common Turks who protected Armenians were killed.

The Armenian Genocide occurred in a systematic fashion, which proves that it was directed by the Young Turk government.

First the Armenians in the army were disarmed, placed into labor battalions, and then killed.

Then the Armenian political and intellectual leaders were rounded up on April 24, 1915, and then killed.

Finally, the remaining Armenians were called from their homes, told they would be relocated, and then marched off to concentration camps in the desert between Jerablus and Deir ez-Zor where they would starve and thirst to death in the burning sun.

On the march, often they would be denied food and water, and many were brutalized and killed by their "guards" or by "marauders." The authorities in Trebizond, on the Black Sea coast, did vary this routine: they loaded Armenians on barges and sank them out at sea.

The Turkish government today denies that there was an Armenian genocide and claims that Armenians were only removed from the eastern "war zone." The Armenian Genocide, however, occurred all over Anatolia [present-day Turkey], and not just in the so-called "war zone." Deportations and killings occurred in the west, in and around Ismid (Izmit) and Broussa (Bursa); in the center, in and around Angora (Ankara); in the south-west, in and around Konia (Konya) and Adana (which is near the Mediterranean Sea); in the central portion of Anatolia, in and around Diyarbekir (Diyarbakir), Harpout (Harput), Marash, Sivas (Sepastia), Shabin Kara-Hissar (þebin Karahisar), and Ourfa (Urfa); and on the Black Sea coast, in and around Trebizond (Trabzon), all of which are not part of a war zone. Only Erzeroum, Bitlis, and Van in the east were in the war zone.

The Armenian Genocide was condemned at the time by representatives of the British, French, Russian, German, and Austrian governments—namely all the major Powers. The first three were foes of the Ottoman Empire, the latter two, allies of the Ottoman Empire. The United States, neutral towards the Ottoman Empire, also condemned the Armenian Genocide and was the chief spokesman in behalf of the Armenians.

The American people, via local Protestant missionaries, did the most to save the wretched remnants of the death marches, the orphaned children.

Despite Turkish denial, there is no doubt about the Armenian Genocide. For example, German ambassador Count von Wolff-Metternich, Turkey's ally in World War I, wrote his government in 1916 saying: "The Committee [of Union and Progress] demands the annihilation of the last remnants of the Armenians and the [Ottoman] government must bow to its demands."

German consuls stationed in Turkey, including Vice Consul Max Erwin von Scheubner-Richner of Erzerum [Erzurum] who was Adolf Hitler's chief political advisor in the 1920s, were eyewitnesses. Hitler said to his generals on the eve of sending his Death's Heads units into Poland, "Go, kill without mercy . . . who today remembers the annihilation of the Armenians."

Henry Morgenthau Sr., the neutral American ambassador to the Ottoman Empire, sent a cable to the U.S. State Department in 1915:

"Deportation of and excesses against peaceful Armenians is increasing and from harrowing reports of eye witnesses [sic] it appears that a campaign of race extermination is in progress under a pretext of reprisal against rebellion."
Morgenthau's successor as Ambassador to Turkey, Abram Elkus, cabled the U.S. State Department in 1916 that the Young Turks were continuing an ". . . unchecked policy of extermination through starvation, exhaustion, and brutality of treatment hardly surpassed even in Turkish history."

Only one Turkish government, that of Damad Ferit Pasha, has ever recognized the Armenian genocide. In fact, that Turkish government held war crimes trials and condemned to death the major leaders responsible.

The Turkish court concluded that the leaders of the Young Turk government were guilty of murder. "This fact has been proven and verified." It maintained that the genocidal scheme was carried out with as much secrecy as possible. That a public facade was maintained of "relocating" the Armenians. That they carried out the killing by a secret network. That the decision to eradicate the Armenians was not a hasty decision, but "the result of extensive and profound deliberations."

Ismail Enver Pasha, Ahmed Cemal Pasha, Mehmed Talât Bey, and a host of others were convicted by the Turkish court and condemned to death for "the extermination and destruction of the Armenians."

The Permanent People's Tribunal recognized the Armenian Genocide on April 16, 1984.

The European Parliament voted to recognize the Armenian Genocide on June 18, 1987.

President Bush issued a news release in 1990 calling on all Americans to join with Armenians on April 24 in commemorating "the more than a million Armenian people who were victims."

President Clinton issued a news release on April 24, 1994, to commemorate the "tragedy" that befell the Armenians in 1915.

The Russian Duma (the lower house of the bicameral Russian legislature) voted on April 20, 1994, to recognize the Armenian Genocide.

Israel officially condemned the Armenian Genocide as Israeli Deputy Foreign Minister Yossi Beilin proclaimed on the floor of the Knesset (the Israeli legislature), on April 27, 1994, in answer to the claims of the Turkish Ambassador, that "It was not war. It was most certainly massacre and genocide, something the world must remember."

The Armenian genocide is similar to the Jewish holocaust in many respects. Both people adhere to an ancient religion. Both were religious minorities of their respective states. Both have a history of persecution. Both have new democracies. Both are surrounded by enemies. Both are talented and creative minorities who have been persecuted out of envy and obscurantism.

Issues:

The Republic of Turkey must cease to be the only major country in the world to deny the Armenian Genocide.

The Republic of Turkey must show good will by allowing American aid to present-day Armenia to pass through unhindered.

The Republic of Turkey must cease to train Azerbaijani soldiers in Turkey for the purpose of attacking Armenia.
April 3, 1996

But all the world of course knows that we are the most humane people of the world.....If he is not a bigot to believe in such lies, love triumphs...But still I have some reservations for that matter.
