Yes you have to. The UK and Ireland is not part of the agreement within most EU nations that would permit open borders. |

You'll need a passport when leaving the UK to mainland Europe. Also, even though you can usually travel between countries without ID, there are often spot checks on the trains, You'll need a photo ID at the very least when flying within Schengen agreement countries, and most countries now require people to carry ID with them at all times. |

To enter any country of the European Community you need either a passport or a valid ID card. Outside the European Community (Switzerland, for example) you do need a passport. |

I don't think UK is part of the Schengen group, so you need a passport to get onto the continent?
Within Europe, we didn't need a passport travelling from i.e. Netherlands into Belgium and back. But, to board flights, get hotel rooms, identify yourself for things like rail passes and car rentals - a passport is an essential document.
Here in North America so few people travel outside the US and Canada that less than 50% have passports. There is a big panic that the US-Canada border will require passports (or an electronically secure special ID card) next year, and this may hurt tourism and cross-border shopping.
But in Europe, where there's a border every few miles and no great libertarian hostility to ID papers, I don't see why people think they can get by without a passport? |

No,it isn't.The passport is the most important document you need to carry with you when you travel out of your country...likewise,you must need a visa from the European country you're visiting and that visa must be attached inside your passport pages. And this is true to all,not just you. |
