There are some good markets; Waterlooplein Flea Market, one of the few markets in Amsterdam where haggling is commonplace, for your flowers or plants visit the Flower Market – Bloemenmarkt, the Farmer’s market - Boerenmarkt (on Noordermarkt) and Albert Cuyp the busiest outdoor market in Europe.
Amsterdam has a big and attractive botanical garden called Hortus Botanicus, one of the oldest in the world.
The city has beautiful architecture, just remember to look up as much of the decoration is at roof height. There are many lovely squares and of course canals.
There are many museums, a zoo and 28 parks my favourites being Vondel, Amstel and the Rijks Museum garden.
Take a train trip to Gouda, a lovely Dutch town or a bus trip out to see Muiden Castle.
One word of warning "pickpockets" they are very good and it is not uncommon. Chances are you will not even know it has happened. So take care of your money and passport.
Don't let this warning put anyone off though I lived in the city for five years it is a great place plus you have the added bonus of the lovely Dutch people. |

Why stick to Amsterdam only when there are a lot of other different cities who are nice to visit too? One just has to have some time to visit it. Just small weekends is nothing. |

There is the Ann Frank house, a beautiful park , bike paths that take you out into the countryside...
The red light district is certainly something to see.
Drugs are tolerated...NOT legal...at least last time I was there. |

The city itself (with its buildings predominantely built in the15th to 18th centuries); the brown cafes (old beer saloons), and hundreds of historical sights. Bibles museum, Hortus Botanicus, Vrolik museum (includes bones, embryos and specimens of congenital deformities- for the desentisized), Anne Frank House, Amsterdams Historisch Museum, Amsterdams Historisch Museum, the Joods Historisch Museum.
Live music venues, Indonesian food... interesting progressive, highly opionated people... |

there are bike tours, boat trips, Anna Frank's museum, tulips, valleys, and unfortunately paedophils who have formed a political party. A strange country indeed. And a very flat one. |
