It is not just in Greece, but in every Mediterranean country...The mentality in the soiuthern coun tries, is different that that one in the northern. The family is more ''tight'' let s say, and the children more attached to it..Also the parents wait in the old age the help of their children..
In Greece, children usually dont leave the house unless they get married, especially the girls...There is an other status about the girls, who have to get married in order not to be criticizes...We can not generalise, because living together without marriage is very frequent in Greece, but we still carry the old traditions, especially the old families...

Personally, i live with my parents, and even if i have my own money, they help me in everything, on the other hand, it is nice...because when i work and retyrn late when the schools begin at least i find everything...ready...

I moved out by the age of 18 as I went to the university. They kept on supporting me financially till the day I graduated (almost 22).

I'm 25, and don't get any money from my parents. I still live at home.

I drive one of their spare cars, but I pay to put gas in it. They pay the insurance and taxes - it's their car. My mom makes dinner (rarely) and offers it to me. Mostly I buy my own food.

Despite working a full-time job, I cannot afford to move out. Basically I live paycheck to paycheck, paying for food and gasoline. There are always miscellaneous expenses like dental bills etc. that use up every spare penny.

I wish I could make it on my own, but I simply can't afford it. I just don't make enough money.

I moved out at 20. I have my own money. But if I NEED it I can get it.

i'm 25 and live with my parents. i just moved back to my home state and it's only temporary until i get going again, but i don't see anything wrong with living with your family. i don't get money from them though, and i work for them in place of rent besides my real job. i'm in the u.s.
i originally moved out when i turned 18.

21, but I am Australian and grew up there. But much older than 21 is old to be still at home in Oz. We move out a lot quicker.

I moved out at the age of 18, when I went to university and I still live away from my family.
I've been working since I was 21. My parents are always there, but I can manage pretty good on my own. That's a great deal of satisfaction.

Noone can interfere into your life matters when you are financially independent. Standing on my own feet is the most important thing to me.

You are right that it is more common to live with your parents. Actually even married couple still live with husband's parents. However for me, I stopped getting money from my mother when I was 16. I want to move out (I'm 19) but she is very lonely and has no one else in her life.

im 14, and ive never gotten an allowance, and i dont expect for my parents to start such a policy anytime soon. i even have to buy my own cell phone. speaking of phones, can u plz answer my quesiton on the matter? idk if its against policies to advertise on another quesiton, but i guess it'll be a good experience...

i wanna move out as soon as i can and move into a place w my closest friends. of course, the only closest friends i have never really talk to me, but thats gonna be in about 4 yrs. my parents arent THAT bad, but i just dont wanna put up with their bullshit anymore. my parents r respectable, but then again, theyre my parents, and parents usually tend to get under their kids' skin.

My children stopped getting money from me as soon as they started earning - and then for as long as they lived at home they paid me instead, for their keep. And they all left home aged 18 or 19 for further education - the very best reason to go, a reason with a purpose. Now they have jobs and families elsewhere, but they are always welcome home.

So, when are you going to grow up?

I started buying the majority of my own clothes at the age of 9.

I quit getting money from (or eating their food/using their utilities) at age 15 when I moved out.

My son is 24, works full time but still relies on mommy for borrowing cash and eating my food.

I've moved out the day I got married at age of 23. My parents wanted to pay for my studies ( we were both students at that time ), another 1,5 year.
I am trying to repay them back now in the best way by taking care of almost all their extra expenses ( they are both over 80 years old ), as their money is not enough for their medications and extra care they need.
Our son basically left home when he went to the army at age of 17,5....then he went abroad to study, he also worked for his expenses but we covered education expenses, which is absolutely normal.

In our society it is quite normal to help your children as much as possible for as long as possible, but many youngsters today think, that their parents will be paying for their extra needs for life.
