Athens & Rome . Which of them attract you more ?

Any reason : history , mythology , weather , people .
you got the right to choose . I say that because an old man told me once that he feels history when he's in Athens ; more than Rome .

If these are my only two choices then I would have to say Rome because it was beautiful and the Colosseum was breathtaking but also because Athens was dirty and polluted and I was constantly being ripped off by locals so that left a very bad taste. They say that Crete is better for cultural/historical travelers than Athens BTW. But the city I fell in love with, the one where I felt the most history of all was in Istanbul Turkey. Ephesus is close by (a city inhabited since 3000 BC and one of the seven wonders of the world) and it has the oldest Christian church in the WORLD, St. Peters along with Muslim Mosques and palaces. It was amazing to see the different architecture and religious influences right there within one city.

Well,, i have yet to get to Athens ... that is next on my list of places to go....

good luck

After seeing them, I find that I got around easier in Rome, having had 4 years of Latin. Greek is, well, Greek to me. But enough people in both countries know English that one can get around. You can eat great meals in both places. Athens is older and has tremendous history. But Rome shows you where Julius Caesar is buried. And I was rather taken that the manhole covers and billboards all have SPQR on them (that's the old initials for Senate and People of Rome). Nothing beats the Acropolis, not even the Coliseum. If I had to choose one to visit, I would go to Athens.
I note a previous responder said go to Iran. I've been there also, and Persepolis is awesome, although it is amusing that the modern day Iranians chose to restore the treasury and harem first. Some other sites in Iran are also interesting, such as the tombs of Artaxerxes and several other rulers, and the wall where the great proclamation of Ozymandias is carved: "Look on me, ye mighty ..."

rome.

I agree - i would choose Athens. History and mythology would be my reasons. However Rome comes a close second!

Neither, go visit the east. Places like Iran(Persia) have much more interesting architectures and culture than Athen and Rome. They are just over rated!

definitely Rome

the history, the food, the people, the architecture.

your 'old man' friend is certainly not wrong. but ive been to both and for me Rome is my favorite.

Athens, for sure. You must see the Acropoles, or the Pireus, or at least take a walk on the streets in centre of the town. It's a dream!!! Believe me... Been there, done that!

While both hold great attraction for me, I'd have to say that I'm more drawn to Athens. Athens represents the older civilization-Greek- and ever since I was small, I've been fascinated with Greek mythology. The hundreds of stories and traditions that still resonate in modern civilization are irresistable. I would love to get a chance to visit and research these places.
