Barack Obama and Armenian genocide? |
Barack Obama , in pre-election times, promised that he is going to recognise Armenian genocide. Now, he postpone this action.
Will he eventually do this?
Is this a kind of strategic movement towards Turkey in order to get Turkey's help about the Middle East,Iran,Iraq and Russia issue?
Is this hypocritical? He is expecting benefits from both sides, by lies and tricks both sides.
What is your opinion? (Turks and Armenians both welcomed).
Please, don't rant about Armenian genocide (if it happened or not), this is not the point of the question |

the question here is most certainly not the truth behind the Armenian Genocide. Its not like Clinton, Bush, and Obama don't know that it happened. I honestly don't know if Obama will recognize the Genocide. many before him have made similar empty promises.
the fact is, regardless of whether or not Obama's belief of the genocide is genuine, Turkey is an important ally. The US is a superpower that ironically has many puppeteers. it can't offend Israel, China, Japan, or Turkey.
The US has had a military base in Turkey ever since the Cold War, and it now has a base for the war on terror. last year, Turkey threatned to withdraw support of the war if the US recognized the Genocide.
In the future, turkey may serve as an important ally if the US chooses to go to wr with Iran. Armenia will definitiely not support war against its good neightbor nation.
What these politicians keep forgtting, is that this is a human rights question. The Armenians have strong grassroots in America.. but lets be real... the results for the presidential elections wouldn't have changed because of the Armenian vote.
I think.. politicans like Obama go in with a genuine belieif that they can stand up to Turkey and soon realize how dirty a game politics is. |

Put it this way.what is more important to America? thier Armenian community or having Turkey as an ally? Answer-Turkey as an ally.
Im still waiting on Obama to do something big and 'change' the world like he said he would.
I believe that Armenia keeps the genocide issue alive to undermine Turkey tbh.Why dont Armenians open thier archives and allow a joint equal investigation? Fear of truth or a different opinion which would prove that it wasnt genocide.
I think Armenia has Turkey just where it wants her.In denial and unable to prove otherwise.Turkey isnt getting the chance to have a full international joint investigation with archives open across the board,as Armenians arent co-operating.
Lets say the investigation comes to the conclusion it wasnt a genocide.Good, that results in 'Turkish victory'.Lets say the conclusion results in it been proven it was a genocide, and Turkey admits it.European powers,EU,USA all praise Turkey for recognising the genocide and the case is closed,Turkey can move on and continue EU talks.
Now where would that leave Armenia? |
|

Qu'est ce que tu pense?

I don't think he'll ever get around to saying to the US public "we must accept the genocide." The only reason he said that, like most politicians, is to gain Armenian votes. The fact that he pushes back the action is reason enough to believe this too. In fact, I heard him speaking and he said that it is in the U.S.' best interest right now to not upset Turkey, since they need an ally that borders many conflict nations. As to what I personally think of this idea, I would agree that it's not a good idea to bring up the issue. I mean, I think economy should be Obama's #1 issue on his agenda right now...not historical justifications that don't effect our daily lives. |

All politicians lie. Some better some not.
There are known knowns and unknown unknowns. Who knows what he will do in terms of Armenian vote. It is too early to judge him on this. The German Kanzler Schröder was on Turkey`s side for almost all of his legitimacy periode. Just a couple of weeks before he left Berlin the German Parliament recognized the so called genocide.
No matter what Obama said before he got elected, he will read more secret files in his oval office now and figure out that the World cannot be reigned with promises made during elections. |

Politicians have been using the Armenian voters for decades. And Armenian voters have been misusing history for their own agenda for decades. And USA has been using Turkey for its political agenda for decades.
The only loser in this equation is the ordinary people and the science that we call history. |

The "Afro-Centrist" groups even claim that Antique Egypt, the Pharaohs, the hyeroglyphs, the pyramids were "Black Civilization" (just because there had been one Nubian Pharaoh once...), that America was first discovered by some African tribes...And some "scholars" even dare saying that Antique Greece was influenced by the Africans (sigh...)...
So maybe Americans will also say that Turks was the cause of the Dinosaurus Extinction?...
Isn't there a Dinosaurus Lobby in the US? Where is the Dinausorus Diaspora?
After all, Obama and all the US presidents are so "smart" that they thought Iraq had Weapons of Mass Destruction...
If there were 5 millions Turks living the USA, maybe Obama would turn the White House into a copy of Ataturk Mausoleum, or declare the 23 Nisan as an American Holidays too, or maybe pick the Turkish Flag on Mars? Why not?... |

In my opinion, if he promised he'd do it, it means he had a certain programme that would lead to this and he didn't just gave fake promise.
I also think that he uses this recognition as a way to press/blackmail Turkey's support mostly for Iraq and less for Iran. As time passes, he will have to promote this 'green energy' and the interests that supported them to become a President. He will promote the recognition, when Turkey won't have that much to give him, though Turkey will always have something to give to this region.
Another question would be...is he trying to press Turkey to support US to a possible war with Iran, an opponent that Turkey, for her own interest, would be reluctant to confront and worsen relatioships with?
Add
It seems that many Turks forget that their country, though situated in a previleged, stategic region, important to the American interests, they aren't in the position to blackmail the USA 'see what will happen' and bla bla.
They are not the super power, America is the super power and has already taken action to secure that Turkey will be obliged to them (USA), Americans are not fulls. ;D
Turkey owes a huge ammount of money to the US and depends almost complitely on the USA's financial help.
Also, Turkey will lose much more, if America desides not to buy Turkish products (oil etc) and to promote new energy industry instead of /more than weapon industry (this will never happen, just a thought). |

A typical politician.
Obama was supossed to bring the wind of change, but he didn't
He was playing with Armenian diaspora/voters in USA and now he is playing with Turkey with the "threat" of recognising the Armenians genocide.
However I don't believe is the same with France.
Most probable is that after USA many countries (especially its puppets) are going to follow. So what USA will do is critical .
I don't buy Obama's words.I guess no words from an American politician |

Ottoman Turks killed 2 million unarmed civilian Greeks, Armenians, and Assyrians between 1915-1923 under the cloud of Worl War I because they are Orthodox Christian people...the Turks did not kill the Kurds because they are Muslim but today the Kurds want nothing to do with the Turkish enemy and want a Free Kurdistan...currently many countries around the world recognize the Armenian Genocide, plus 2/3 of US states have passed state legislative laws recognizing the Armenian Genocide...now it's only normal that Prez Obama WILL RECOGNIZE THE ARMENIAN GENOCIDE, although there are some rumors that the US might want to officially pass this law in 2015 to mark the 100th sad anniversary. |
