Best European Countries? |
Once I turn 18, I plan on traveling through Europe. But I'm not sure which countries to go to, and I dont want to see all 47! I want countries with a lot of interesting historical sites and museums (ones a young person would like!), and also have great natural sites like parks, etc, and have really good landscapes and countryside. I want it to be a friendly place and have lots of places with history like churches. Plus I would like them to have a fun and active nightlife and have lots of fun places to go like flea markets or shops, as well.
Any suggestions? |

If you want that all in a nutshell, go to Amsterdam. I was there when I was 20.
Now you might ask: 20? Why so late? -- Easy. I'm German, and I made my driving license at the age of 18, which is the legal age here, and I couldn't enjoy it too much as they drew me to the army, and I served my 15 months. Drat! So I went to Amsterdam two years later.
You have it all there:
Museums a young person would like: What about the sex museum, and the torture museum? You can add the Rembrandt museum (famous Dutch painter) if you like.
Historical sites abound in Amsterdam, churches are there a lot, and the Anne-Frank-Huis reminds us of the Nazi crimes in WWII.
Parks? Go see the Vondelpark, the hippies' movement meeting point in the 1970ies. A part of European history.
Natural sites? Go buy a train ticket, and in half an hour you're in Zandvoort, a North Sea seaside resort. Like beaches and salty water? Go there.
Landscapes and countryside? No problem. Just outside the city, landscape with windmills start, and a little bit further down south, you can enjoy country lifestyle.
Flea markets, shops, active nightlife: Well, you bet.
I think Amsterdam is a good starter. At least it's a city you can compare other European cities with. I'm measuring cities on my personal scale whether they are like Amsterdam or not, on a scale from -5 to +5. So Paris gets a -2, Rome gets a +3, Venice a -4, Berlin a +1 (for their canals), Munich a -2, Prague a +3, London, well, doesn't fit to the scale. It's somewhat different. |

definately go to ireland! i'm originally from dublin but i live in california. I'm also 18 and every summer I go to Ireland. Its a great country- there is plenty to do. Dublin is great for nightlife: the pubscene and clubscene. The largest city park in europe is located in Dublin: the Phoenix Park. There are plenty of historical and cultural sights (ie: churches, museums, art galleries). It is also a really friendly country. It can be expensive, especially if you are coming from the US, so I would recommend staying in a hostel: they cheap and are great places to meet people and are clean and safe most of the time. If you have any more questions about dublin or ireland let me know :) |

good night life in dk...People are amazed how much they drink and party and they start about 5 in the afternoon with a big dinner and go out about 1 am til 6 am...then eat again. I have never seen anything like it and they are pretty much free when they go out... during the day its very relaxed but lots to do and see in the summer like castles, festivals, and always stuff in the big cities...beaches. |

England/Scotland/Wales/Ireland
France
Italy
Spain
Czech Republic
Slovenia
Croatia
some places will need a LOT ( France/Italy/Spain) of time to explore properly
Others will need less............you will find markets just about anywhere scattered in large cities or small towns...... |

Im from Scotland and its worth a visit, lots of history and a decent night life. Parts of England are nice to and also have good variety of stuff to do. I havnt been to Scandanavia but I hear its expensive and a little bit boring but great scenery.
Hollands great fun and the Dutch are very nice people.
Germany has a good nightlife and in general the people are hospitable. Northern Spain is less travelled and very beautiful I would highly recommend it, Galicia and Basque.
Eastern Europe is a lot cheaper than the west and has some great old skool clubs, as well as scenery, like bucharest, prague. Slovenia looks amazing ive never been and it borders Italy so not to far out.
Iceland if you have a lot of money. |
