Well, Sweden is one of the most liberal and secular countries in the world, and even though it's pretty dark in the winter you can always watch the stars and the northern lights (aurora borealis).
To compensate for the dark winters we have daylight around the clock in summertime, and especially the midnight sun in northern Sweden is FANTASTIC !!! |

Malta - then you won't have to bother leaning a new lang. Since when is Holland liberal? They have v. strict rules! |

I like Greece would be a very good choice for a happy and relaxed life close to the nature, in an environment that has a lot to offer. It is fun but...liberal, I don't know. ;-)
Southern France would be a wonderfool choice too. |

A Scandinavian country as religion is not a big thing in those countries and many are atheists, also they have some of the best standard living in the world, their countries are clean, they have top health care and they all speak very good English, although obviously you would have to learn their language! |

Dude, Sweden is only dark in the winter. In the summer it's light all the time! Then it's like 22 hours of sunlight. I'd say Sweden is the best country to live in. |

Since I live in Paris, of course I'm partial to anywhere in France. ;)
When I think 'liberal' I definitely think of the Netherlands, and when I think 'fun' I think of a southern Europe country, like Greece.
But avoiding Americanization? (Can you tell from my spelling that I'm American myself?) It's impossible. Americanization is everywhere, EXCEPT my roommate right now is Norwegian, and there's a pretty wide culture gap between us, so I guess any Scandinavian country could work if you want to avoid our influence. ;) |

IRELAND!!!!!
It's spectacularly beautiful and scenic, but then Dublin city is modern and sophisticated, while Galway is the place to go for the craic. Everyone is friendly and up for a laugh and it's easy to make friends. And we aren't all bible bashers.
Also, you've no problem with the language, as long as you aren't in Gaeltacht area.
Sorted! |

Maybe Switzerland. They've always been neutral ^^. And I can't imagine that they are americanised.
Personally, as a German, I prefer my own country lol. Berlin and Hamburg got quite a good social life. And the rent isn't that high just as food. And we are not as strict etc. as many people say xD. |
