Brits behaving badly abroad

Why is it that we have a bad name due to youngsters getting drunk aboad.

My solution is one hit and the passport would be stamped, a second time the passport would be suspended for 3 years until they learn to grow up.

I suppose some people might say there rights are taken away from them, I say unless they behave they have allowed their rights to be taken..after all it doesn't happen with the french/spanish/germans if they visit the UK..

Sexy Paul?? yes it maybe in our genes, and I admit I have got drunk on the odd occasion, but not to the point of wanting to fight the world

Yeah, that would be a great idea!! Since moving to Cyprus, I have become even more aware of the Brits abroad, and how much trouble they can cause....it does make me ashamed to be British! This lot should be treated just the same as football hooligans, and, if they offend, they should be banned from travelling abroad.

Hmm, passport suspension? My goodness, why didn't I think of that? Good idea my friend. Not all Brits abroad are bad obviously. When I'm on holiday, I always mind my manners to ensure our international reputation isn't damaged even more. Nevertheless in answer to your question, bad behaviour is what makes the headlines these days, and the media is a powerful, and influential tool. Good behaviour abroad is not a good news story.

That's a really good idea, I like it. Only wish we could do the same for drunk and violent people who abuse the nurses in A&E!

Andrew G
I'm with you on this. People who behave in a similar manner while flying there or back should be included.

The British have always had a bad name abroad, even before we became the barbarian mob of tourists that we are today.

What people forget is that most nations fear the British and with good reason.

The other thing about the British is that collectively they behave very much as did their ancestors and booze is of very high importance in the British way of life and culture.

I'm now 68 but in 1960 when I was 18, I was posted to Cyprus as a soldier in the British Army [signed on for 9 years]. There were no tourists to speak of back then and you just do not want to now what went on either.

Okay, so here's a glimpse. A mate of mine who was in a Guards regiment got pissed and went into town with a pick axe handle and went beserk - bad soldier, bad, bad bad.

Think he got posted to Germany for that, where he could do more mayhem.

Read the questions...there are so many youngsters, many from Britain, though I admit, quite a few from the US, who just want to go to the party cities in Spain to get drunk and get laid. They state it flat out in their questions.

It's like Mexico with the US college kids for Spring Break. They used to be fine with going to Florida and Texas, but now, they have to go to Mexico and party wild, because that's what they see on MTV. it's insane! I'm so glad I'm too old for that!

Not a bad idea, people need to learn that this behaviour is totally unacceptable.

I like a drink just like anyone else but I don't get so drunk or unruly that I get into a fight, collapse or get arrested.

I'm Scottish and live in London. I definitely consider myself a Londoner except when I'm abroad. Then, I'm definitely Scottish to anyone who asks because the English have such a bad reputation for fights. Yes, the Scots and the Irish get drunk but not in that violent skinheaded Man United shirt wearing, union flag beachtowel way.

This kind of behaviour is fuelled by having lots of cheap drink available. If these foreign resorts - and some of our home towns - don't want the shagging/vomiting/fights, they shouldn't cater for them.

Barbara Doll to you
How can you stop people travelling within the EU when we are paying for it?

Sexy Paul
Its our fault that they behave badly abroad, its our culture. It happens in our own country so they take it to other country's too.Its in our genes man.

The tourism industry in places like Greece and Spain rely heavily on British Tourists.

If they don`t like it, they should ban tourism altogether and loose the massive revenue that British people pump into their resorts. They want to have their cake and eat it.

What do they expect when they entertain club 18-30 holidays, and young people?

I have no pity for proprietors who make a living from young people spending money on Booze in their establishments. Other tourists and locals yes - but not the bar and club owners.

EDIT:

Carrie S, If the Scots aren`t as bad as the English, then what was all that trouble in Manchester a few months back with Rangers fans?
