I am just back from Elinete - Royal Park Hotel - just down the road from Sunny Beach.... Don't go on an all-inclusive to Bulgaria the hotel food is repetitive and the Beer is 2% watered down Bulgarian Caliber and the spirits taste horrid. - the food & beer is cheap to buy on Self Catering and the portions are big..the beer may only be about 50p but its a house glass - not a pint - so its hard to tell what kind of measure it is.. it was very warm - it hit 45c.... the people - are ok! but they are " to the point " - and didnt understand my Glaswegian brand of sarcasm.. dont take offence if you think they are growling at you.. .its just their way.. The so called cheap designer fake goods...are just that....Cheap & Fake.. the quality is very poor..the one wash and its shrunk stuff.. dont let the heat make you think your getting a great bargain...You can buy an brand new beach side apartment for under £30K. - there is even pads for sale at under £10K.
Cigarettes prices range from £17 / 200 - for Mayfair - to £28+ for brands like B&H . Vodka is cheap - but Whisky is a tad expensive - and a litre bottle of Baileys turned out to be £20. ! watch out for the very pushy Taxi Drivers...
I would also advise that you change you £'s into Lev's when you get to Bulgaria - there where some places begging to take your £ for nearly 3 lev's. The Water from the tap is safe enough to drink .... Bulgaria - its what Spain was like when it was just starting to develop.

We have been going for 6 years now and love it. I love the shopska salads, washed down with a nice vodka & coke. Hotel crysanthimum as its pronounced in english is very nice. Hotel Palace thats on the beach is nice. Where ever you stay you will enjoy it.

The country is great, the people are warm and friendly. Above all it`s cheap, in rural areas dinner for two with wine will cost around £10, a bottle of Vodka £1.50, a beer 40p. The coastal area is more expensive but still cheap, regarding food it`s very similar to Greek. You can even buy yourself a house for under £10,000.
Hope that`s been of use.

bulgaria is amazing
ive been twice, once to Golden Sands resort and once to Albena. The people are very friendly and helpful. It is extrememly cheap once your out there. you can get beer o for around 40p a bottle. Everything is open late, we arrived in golden sands in the early hours of the morning and still managed to get a kebab by the beach. The sea is very warm and the tide is always in as te sea is lanlocked. The food inside is very german orientated as that is the main base of their customers. I find that if you go half board it is fine as food is soooo cheap. Also its very family orientated. Don't bother with the day trips that the holiday eps recommend as they are expensive, but for day trips, you can generally find a taxi driver that is cheap and you can go when it is convieniant for you

PINK THONG,

Why do you think Glasgowegian culture is widely understood and appreciated?? If you don't want to spend a bit more on good clothes, I suggest you go to Thailand or Africa.
Our rakia is an acquired taste; not everyone likes whisky, either.
I can't say you have see the true face of Bulgaria, being herded into an expensive resort, with, I imagine, all-inlclusive thrown into the bargain.

Bulgaria has it all---beautiful scenery---mountains,the Black Sea coast, fresh water lakes, rivers, lots of architectural and historical monuments. It is kind of the Switzerland on the Balkan peninsula....I sound like a commercial...The food is delicious, very affordable to go out, drinks are cheap.People are extremely friendly and hospitable. What's good to eat---typical local food----"tarator"/cold cucumber and yogurt soup/,perfect for the summer,"shopska salad","chushki burek"/roasted red peppers stuffed with cheese/,fried zucchini with garlic sauce, chicken or pork sauteed with a veggie mix...I can go on and on....For dessert...homemade pastries....What I am trying to say is that if you ever have a chance to go...take that adventure...you will love the experience.

I have lived in Bulgaria for two years now and have never looked back.

It does have some faults such Bulgarian car drivers habits and politics but these are minor in terms of the quality of life you could live out there.

As for food well the choice and quality are second to none what's more all chemical free! Of course it's the home of the yoghurt but it goes beyond that. Experiment with Bulgarian eating there and you won't go back to bad old eating habits ever again!!

Bulgaria is rich in natural beaty with something for everyone from skiing to coastal resort to glitzy city life to sleepy village life. The Bulgarian people are fantastic and the country's low crime rate makes it a safe place to be.

The biggest bonus to some is it's the cheapest place in Europe, in my view the best for less!

Check out the website where these sources were taken from, everything you ever wanted to know it there.

I live in BG. I don't know what you like, but if you are up for an adventure - you are most welcome to come :)
Plenty of places to stay at. Whether you go for the sea or inland Bulgaria and the mountains - here's a nice site:
http://www.bgglobe.net/?l=1
Food and drink - when in Bulgaria, do as the Bulgarians. We eat a lot of salad and light food in the summer. Try out some vegetarian dishes, although pork barbeque and fish are also summer favourites, combined with the salads. Bulgarians do not drink without eating and it is not acceptable to get drunk in public. Try this: banichka with ayran for breakfast; tarator with your luch; the local rakia plus shopska salad to start you dinner. Take your time while eating - the idea is not to get stuffed in 5 minutes. Also, we generally eat our food a liitle colder than people in the UK are used to.
If you go to a Bulgarian city/town/village you will find it extremely cheap - definitely cheaper than Greece and Croatia for instance.
About the people - one simple rule: if you are nice to people, they will be nice to you. Naturally, touristy places tend to attract the jerks, so carefull with those. The younger generation speaks some English, but I suggest you pay more attention to the way people speak to you - body language, etc. People are generally friendly and helpful to a ''foreigner in distress'' :)
I wish you a very, very nice holiday!

PS. Pink Thong - why are you writing about the price of vodka and whiskey, and not of fresh fruit for instance?

Me
Why in Bulgaria. Go to Greece. It is more beautiful, with beaches, islands, mountains (where the winter snowing), and a lot of other things to do.

Hibee
Sunny Beach! Chav-on-Sea.

Watch out for the Roma......they didn't get their reputation for nothing.
