I wouldnt advise it, they will make up their own exchange rates, especially in the smaller shops, markets and buses. I live here and know that from experience!!
You can bring them with you and change them at a bureau as with any currency. Unless you are scottish like me, they wont accept scottish pounds, they seem to think they aren't legal tender!
Best to use Turkish Lira though, that way, you pay what you see on the price tag! |

You can use Euros in shops and restaurants, but I suggest you exchange some. Else you would be bothering about everything from the cost of a bottle of water to renting beach beds. |

I'd suggest using the Lira. I dont like the Euro so much because i think half the holiday fun is trying to work out which coins are what in the local currency! :-) |

You can use Euros in Turkey. Lots of tourists do that.
However, I don't suggest you to do so.
Because first of all Turkish currency is Turkish Lira (TL) and secondly using a foreign currency may cause some miscalculations from time to time.
It would be better for you if you pay your hotel and other big amount purchases in Euros and pay other things in TL.
Bring your Euros with you and then exchange them into TL in Turkey at the Foreign Currency Exchange Offices ("Döviz Bürosu" in Turkish). These offices can be easily found throughout all the cities in Turkey. They generally offer better exchange rates than banks and do not charge commision on cash transactions. However shop around as rates can vary.
And bear in mind that there is a commission charge for travelers cheques and bank checques. |
