Oh yea what you upto!? ha! I bet you are not going to Amsterdam to spend extra money on Flowers pal...Have a good smoke and a Brothel time..!! :) and the answer is yes you can use your debit card but will be charged at the normal rate your allways charged...!

As it is Visa yes, check with your bank as some charge differently.

eleni
Yes you can and in more places than you can at home. Chip and pin can be used to buy train tickets, and accepted in all the shops I've ever been to in Holland. Check with your bank for charges using an ATM or card purchases as they differ, it would save you in the long run to have Euros and keep them in the hotel safe. Have a great trip :-)
p.s anywhere showing the VISA sign accepts visa debit not just credit cards

gpatrick900
Yes, you should be able to use it anywhere Visa is taken. Like one poster said. Let you bank know that you will be using it in Amsterdam. This way it will have less chance of being blocked. Only a few UK banks block transaction outside of the UK.

Depending on the countries system you may have to sign for your purchases instead of entering your pin. If you have the plus or Maestro symbol on the card by using your pin. You can use it at merchants that take those cards provided your bank does not block pin debit transactions.

I used my one in Belgium and they charged me an extra 2 pound per transaction

GAVIN E
Providing that they accept visa in the shop or whatever establishments ou may be purchasing from.

One bit of advice is to tell your bank that you will be going to Amsterdam, just in case that they think that your card may have been stolen and used in a different country.

don't do it mate take cash
I've just come back to find that my card had been cloned by one of the cafes out there and 3 1/2 grand went walk about the bank believed me fortunately enough because some of the transactions coincided with each other and i couldn't be in Harlan and Amsterdam within 5 minutes making purchases

Magic Bus Driver
Use your card to get euros out of an ATM.

You'll get the best rate that way.

Even the prostitutes take visa in Amsterdam.

If you are going to get stoned then keep your valuables on your body somewhere safe. There are many in the Dam who live by ripping tourists but at the same time you have no reason to get paranoid either. Use common sense.

El Cid
Yes, but why not use their Visa credit card to pay for services/products. They give you the best exchange rate available and no commissions.
