You cannot put on a head scarf if you're entering a university as a student or a lecturer. This is real strict. You just are not allowed.
You can wear whatever you want if you attend a private institute which offers language classes but NOT A COLLEGE.All the colleges and universities are directed by the governmental rules when it comes to formal issues and instruction.
You have to find yourself a private institute which is not a college nor a university where they offer Turkish courses for everyone.
There are pretty silly answers people gave to your question in here.Unfortunately my answer is the one which is correct.I'm Turkish and I know very well about this rule is being strictly applied in all the colleges and all the universities in Turkey. There is no exception in any of the unis or colleges. |

No you can't wear your hijab. It is banned for people to wear head scarves while going to university. You are not even allowed to wear a head scarf while taking the university entry exam.
Turkey is a secular country but there are some reckless people who try to change the regime and bring the sacred regime. Head scarves became symbolic of their will to change the system so when they wear it, they wear it not because of their religious beliefs but because of their political views mainly.
Education is at least as important as religion. It's for you to decide which one is right. If your hijab is so important for you and you still want to go to that course, then try wearing a wig. |

Turkey is by law a secular country. The major religion there is Islam, but the state itself does not operate based on Islam or any other religion - that is why wearing hijabs in public institutions is banned in Turkey. I have heard that strictly religious women in Turkey have found a compromise - instead of hijabs they put wigs on. They then look modern and still have their heads covered, which is the basic idea of the hijab. Also, I would suppose that they are quite strict there, in view of the fact that the majority is Muslim and that women normally do not wear hijabs. |

No you can not. Turkish universities and government buildings do not allow you to cover up. What you heard is true. There are plenty of Arab universities that actually ban women that refuse to wear a hijab and Turkey is the exact opposite. You can go to an Arab university. |

although i think all religions except maybe zen buddhism have done far more harm than good to the human race - as an american, it is deeply offensive to me to imagine the govt. prohibiting the free exercise of religion. i was shocked and offended when france banned the head scarf and all religious symbols in their schools, but my father said RIGHT ON!
however, given all the terrible harm religion does, it is certainly understandable that, at this point, the govts close to the religious bloodshed will try anything to stop the lunacy and get people living in reality. |

No, unfortunately you can't. And it does not matter whether you choose a state university or a private college.
In fact many Turkish girls either use wigs or simply don't go to college because of this ruling.
I hope things are going to change in the near future because banning wearing head scarf is just as stupid as banning not wearing it. |

You have to be kidding me.... really.... i thought turkey was supposed to be a predominately muslim country...

Actually its 'kind of' no at the moment with the universities but there is a big discussion going on at the moment so I would either check with the Education Ministries in Ankara - these are the Turkish government sites http://www.gksoft.com/govt/en/tr.html
(Most of them should be able to respond to emails in English)
Or try the university itself or try the Turkish Consulate - if you are in the UK its http://www.turkishconsulate.org.uk/en/index.htm.
Probably with a private language college you can wear but again best to check with the college you are intending to study with.

hope you make the right decision and succeed in your education without going against you religion. |

Ifyou go to Iran- to cover hair for lady is a MUST. Turkey- not |

What you need to do - is drop the religion and then go and study where you like. The hijab is offensive as it is devisive because of what it represents, i.e. religion - i.e. there is only one god and that is my god - why can't you just believe in yourself and what you are capable of achieving by your own efforts, without having the continual crutch to lean on of religion ? Had you considered why the authorities at your chosen university might have banned this piece of clothing in the first place. If you must be religious then be religious at home where you're not going to offend anybody ! |
