Undoubtedly this is an assignment. right? Kindly tell your teacher that a 4000 year history of a country that is considered by historians and educated people to be the cradle of western civilization CAN NOT possibly have its history abbreviated, abridged, shortened or cliffnoted!
Kimon is 110% right.

If that is a project that your teacher gave to your class, he/she probably need to reassign the class homework with specific tasks. No way to describe the cradle of history – democracy and civilization within some sentences.

There is a lot of good information available at any library or bookstore. I would recommend Wikipedia to start with, then research further what interests you. There is just so much Greek history that it is difficult to give you a specific answer.

There is no such thing as a brief or basic history of Greece. Want brief: Ancient "country" in the Mediterranean on whose culture and philosophical principles the whole of western culture/politics is derived and based on.

Ancient Greece is a period in Greek history that lasted for around three thousand years. It is generally considered to be the seminal culture which provided the foundation of Western Civilization. Greek culture had a powerful influence on the Roman Empire, which carried a version of it to many parts of Europe. The civilization of the ancient Greeks has been immensely influential on the language, politics, educational systems, philosophy, science, and arts, giving rise to the Renaissance in Western Europe and again resurgent during various neo-Classical revivals in 18th and 19th century Europe and the Americas.
The Greeks are believed to have migrated southward into the Balkan peninsula in several waves beginning in the late 3rd millennium BC, the last being the Dorian invasion. Proto-Greek is assumed to date to some time between the 23rd and 17th centuries BC. The period from 1600 BC to about 1100 BC is described in History of Mycenaean Greece known for the reign of King Agamemnon and the wars against Troy as narrated in the epics of Homer
hope its helpfull but its nothing compared to the full history,
which starts about 2700b.c.(thats !!!!!!!) till now......
there is no easy way to learn history.....

U got to be kidding...Greece has a huge history...! Well, let's start with the basics:
First of all, some people (Ionians, Dorians etc), many thousands of years ago (3OOO B.C.) went from the upper part of Europe, to the place that Greece is now. Greece's biggest wars were the Trojan** ( about 1300 B.C.), the Peloponnisian* (about 431)and Persian(about 490 B.C.). Also there were the Greek war of indipendence (1821, 25 march) and the 2nd world war when the Greeks fought away the Germans and the Italians.
The facts though aren't so simple. I could be writing for months and yet it wouldn't be enough...!
Anyway, ancient Greece in my oppinion, hasn't such an interestic history, only if you like democracy, wars, philosophy and wise quotes. The biggest cities of ancient Greece were Athens and Sparta. Athens was the mother of democracy, it was a city with an amazing civilization and Sparta had the best army ever. While in Athens women were treated like objects, in Sparta they were very respected and almost egual to men, able to do anything they needed to live(work, buy, sell...). That was because men in Sparta were in armorys since they were 20 and untill they were 60. In Athens though men were working as tradors or farmers and went to the "agora", a place where everybody gathered to vote for things that concerned them.
That continued untill the the Romans took Greece (about 330 B.C.)and time passed torturously for the Greeks under the seisin. The Roman Empire quit Rome and made Constantinople, or Instambul as it is now named, their capital, this way Roman Empire became Byzantine Empire. Then the Ottoman Turks took this Empire and the situation was very difficult for the Greeks who suffered so many torturies by them. Then in 1821, the Greeks revoluted and freed themselves after all those centuries...They built their country with many difficulties and in 1940 the world war 2 hit them. With many difficulties again, they managed to get free again (revolution of 28 of October).

Remember These were just the basics and a lot of things happend before, inbetween and after the facts I just told you.
Sorry if my English wasn't so good.
I hope i helped, please chose my answer for the best, i got very tired writing all this stuff...

*If you want extra information about that read an amazing book, Histories by Herodotos.
** Book: Iliada by Homer
