Dear Larsa....I see u opened a new YA account today. Was it just for the purpose of seeking business advice? Hmmm.... OK. Well, I will be honest with you. I don't want to hurt your feelings but.........if you go to Greece to start a business, no one will take u seriously if u don't know the language, ESPECIALLY because of your age. Being Greek is not good enough. How will you communicate with people??? It is different if you are a tourist there, but for business, I think that even a marginal fluency in the language is essential. What kind of business do u want to start? |

Well...almost everyone speaks english in Greece, but it is not enough if you want to stay here and have a business, besides you are very young.
I have a wonderful-in my opinion-suggestion to make. Why don't you learn greek using the unique programme of Rosetta Stone? Exactely because of your age you will learn very fast, and this specific self learning programme is very very good.
Then, come in Greece for all of the summer.
This way you will see the country you want to live in, not just make a business. Bear in mind that your life will change, because for a french or an italian isn't a big deal living in Greece, but for an american is a completely different style of life.
Then, if you think you can manage to stay and run a business here, you should discuss with your father or mother, they should take the responsibility of opening a business and you would rather be the head here.
I think this way you could manage something.
Search for the site of Rosetta Stone and try the free demos they have, to see how easy is to learn a language (that's why their programmes are a little bit expensive).
Good luck! |

even some things that seem like the impossible can be the possible..
Become motivated to learn the language fairly enough to listen and talk, reading and writing can go later-- Get some help with your family members who are fluent.
People who says that you need experience and a formal education for starting a business, that's just fancy stuff, anyone can start their own business and learn on their own time-- Time is their experience and the patience and effort also determination can be the thing that will lead you to success...!
I recommend some books, such as, "STOP WORKING" by Rohan Hall, "How to Win Friends and Influence People" by Dale Carnegie... and a few others-- but start with these.. They will definitely help you on the short and long term. For one part, is about starting a home business, and the other is dealing with people--socially will bring out good benefits for you.
Take a look at the youngest entrepreneurs who made their way out into the millions and even billions and even the richest person in the world, such as Bill Gates--
anyway... The ancient Chinese were a wise lot--wise in the ways of the world; and they had a proverb that you and I ought to cut out and paste inside our hats. It goes like this: "A man without a smilling face must not open a shop" hahhaha
good advice :)
also there's plentiful of people who don't speak the national language and still manage to make lots of money in the local area-- Ahem.. such as my family and many of the small business shops who don't speak a single word of english ahhaha I wonder who they pass through the bills and government documents and letters =.... |

The fact that you were born here will be of not help at all. The advices given already, may be sound and you will definitely have problems if you will have to deal directly with customers.
If the business you plan to open is wholesale then it may be a little better since you will have to deal with less customers but still a problem. The everyday partake will be a major problem. One of the regular users here -Asimenia- who has a business of her own, may give you a few hints. See if you can get in touch with her on the following link : http://answers.yahoo.com/my/message_do;_ylc=X3oDMTBwbXI0b3EzBF9TAwRzZWMDdXNyX3VzcgRzbGsDcmVwbHk-;_ylv=3?kid=OeF7G0A8aa&reply=1&subject=Re%3A+re%3A+sorry or try directly on her avatar and mail her. |

I'm not sure on the legality, but I wouldn't advise starting a business if you can't deal with the customers or direct your subordinates. |

no, how are you going to communicate, how are you going to advertise your products, how are you going to recruit workers. and besides youre only 18 bro |

I think you can do it - if you have the right business mind, and you see a 'hole' in the market! - I've seen people (foreigners) do this. Good luck.
It would help if you could spell business, though! |

it would make far more sense just to learn some basics of the language and begin your business in a country where you can communicate with locals! how do you expect to sell products and order things on the phone if you cant tell anyone what you want! |
