I just spent the weekend in Galway City in Ireland. I had never been there before and had gone down for work but I had a great time and am planning to go back there in the summer with a group of friends when the festivals are on! The food was fantastic, the people were lovely, the culture and history there was amazing...not to mention the nightlife. There was live music everywhere we went and loads of great pubs and clubs. If you decide to go you should check out a place called Spiddle just outside the city...

Prague. The food is absolutely the greatest, best beer in the world (Pilsen and Budweis), and the sausages and the cheeses... I can hardly wait; going there in 9 days!! People are good too. Just stay away from gypsies, and would-be moneychangers that try to stop you in the street. The moneychangers in booths, and banks are fine for changing money - otherwise you could wind up with a handful of fakes.

Try Athens in Greece.
Great history, a lot of sightseeing, intense nightlife and perfect weather from now until next December!

Bruges is very pretty indeed, but all towns in Belgium are. If you are looking for mainly food and drink, going out etc I would recommend Antwerp.
Belgium has more than 360 varieties of beer, all of them are absolutely fabulous. And the food is the best in Europe.
The people are very warm, welcoming and have a great sense of humour. And almost everybody speaks English.
Have fun on your trip!

I recommend Ireland to everyone, esp Dublin. There is a lot to do there, more pubs than people (or so it seems), and they have they are the friendliest population. they actually like americans there. look into the temple bar district, you will be in the middle of it all.

For a really wonderful and slightly different destination, try Vilnius, the capital of Lithuania. I have visited it many times and find everyone very friendly, the prices are really good for us and the city is beautiful. The food and drink are excellent and I can honestly say that I have never been disappointed with either. The Lithuanians are justly proud of their capital with it's wide open spaces.
You can fly direct to Vilnius from Gatwick (and other airports) with a number of airlines although Air Baltic and flyLAL are probably the cheapest.or maybe you might like to visit Kaunas it's second city? This can be reach using Ryanair if you prefer. As you can guess I am an enthusiast and more than willing to give you more information on any of this.

for a bit of everything but especially people and pubs, try dublin. wander into some of the pubs off the main streets and you'll find some good old irish music and partying...its ace
