Can you recommend a great place to stay in Istanbul?

My husband and I are traveling to Istanbul end of September. We are looking for a hotel recommendation in a great part of the city. We would like to splurge. We are also looking for restuarant ideas. Thanks!

I would recommend you Taksim area which is on the city center. There are many different type of hotels. There are also many restaurants, cafe and bars.
The second choice can be Sultanahmet which is the old city and most of the historical places are on that area. There are many boutic hotels. Dining is a bit expensive as its being a touristic area.
I highly recommend you having a dinner on Bosphorus, sitting by the amazing view of Istanbul which will make you fall in love again ( can be Poseidon in Bebek which is a great fish restaurant).
Hope you enjoy your holiday and if you want to ask any question about Istanbul, please do not hesitate to contact direct via e-mail.

There are lots of 5 star hotels in İstanbul. You can also find even apart hotels and rental apartments if you like.
You should visit Sultanahmet area as a tourist but you will immediately realise that İstanbul is a uniq and lovely city and you will love it.
You can easily find good restaurants and places to visit.
You can choose hotels from Asian part or Europian part of İstanbul (Bosphorous).
There are good web sites to choose your hotel to stay and learn about İstanbul before your departure. I recommend you www.istanbul.net.tr
I am sure you will enjoy your stay in İstanbul

If you are looking for an area to stay, I'd recommend staying in Sultanahmet, close to all the old sites you will want to visit. If you are looking for a romantic hotel, I can recommend a few. We stayed in Hotel Daphne and LOVED it. It was close to everything and it was just a fantastic room with views of the sea. Friends of mine have enjoyed others, such as Angel's Home and Hotel Empress Zoe. Try looking up hotels on TripAdvisor.com to see what other people think of these hotels, and others within your price range.

One last tip--don't pay for these hotels on a random site like Expedia or Hotels.com. Try contacting the hotel individually by email. You can negotiate for a better rate, and often get freebies like free dinner or a ride to/from the airport to the hotel. It's worth it to try!

Good luck, and enjoy Istanbul! It's a beautiful city.

Try the Ambassador Hotel (www. hotelambassador.com) in Sultanahmet. It it centrally located, only minutes away from the tramway and close to the Blue Mosque, Aya Sophia, the Hippodrome, Topkapi Palace, the Arasta Bazaar and the Grand Bazaar. My husband and I stayed there many times. Their service improves every year. Breakfast is great. Now they have a jacuzzi and other amenities in the basement. The view from the terrace is terrific. Ask for the room at the top of the hotel; my favorite place -- where I have even been for my birthday. Get Nuri to take you to to weird places. If you go -- tell them Virginia sent you.
I have heard some scary stories recently from tourists in Taksim , so be careful there.
E-mail me if you like. I live here. Have a great time wherever you stay.

Istanbul is a huge , varied and one of the most caotic cities on earth. Are you really planning to come here on your own with a few people's recommendations about hotels and restaurants in İstanbul on yahoo answers????!!!You should be totally unaware of what you think you're doing!
My suggestion is that you make a deal WITH a proper tourism agency and make a professionally planned group visit to İstanbul, WITH other tourists, WITH a guide who knows what he's doing .
This is my best advice.

I think the best part of the city to stay in is Sultanahmet. It's a historical place with a lot of interesting things to see and a lot of restaurants and cafes. I'm sure there are some good hotels in this party of the city, although I can't recommend any one in particular.

Moosty
Check these.
Sultanahmet is the part of the city to stay, if you want to be close to ancient sights.
