not exactly cheap - but you can take shorter courses online - and it is an excellet way to learna new language
. |

If this is someone you actually like (as opposed to someone you have any business dealings with), then drop the interpreter.
Spend some time alone with this person, breaking it into bite-size pieces so that neither of you gets overwhelmed: i.e., take them for a walk, then for a coffee&cake or a drink in a pub, and afterwords to an ice-skating ring (or bowling/ gallery/ market, etc).
That way you'd be able to get to know the real person, and make a real connection - trust me, this is possible even when two people don't speak the same language.
And it's a great fun. |

The easiest way would be for your russian friend to meet and socialise with fellow russians who can speak english and for him/her to learn from their experiences. |

Arrange him holidays or trip to USA. He will need to communicate and will be able to talk little bit after. It will be very nice from you. |

There are many ways your friend can learn english. First I strongly suggest an english course, here in Ottawa, Ont. Canada there are some great programs offered by the government, also some by the local schools. Surround the person with English, i.e. T.V., radio, theatre, church and so on. Russian is very hard to learn, I know as I studied it for a year before I moved to Moscow. Even with a year under my belt it was not enough. Learn a few words though!!! Good Luck!! |

well guess what you will probably learn to speak Russia way before they will learn to understand and speak english...
I find that word relations helps faster..hands on..works more...like..watch look and listen..well for instance.lay out stuff on the table..apple with a card infront of it that reads A-P-P-L-E..they say it....they feel it...... they read it..layout a color chart to the side to help them descibe the apple..point to the color and the word...R-E-D..hold the apple.let them hld and say RED APPLE..
you can make awhole lesson with just that alone..take a knife a fork and a spoon and place words under them, then you show that the knife cuts..and signal on your finger and say the word is cut..and write it for them then you perform it on the apple..etc etc.
I know it sounds like alot... but you will amazed they will soon remeber..at supper.when they raise their knife and say the word..or the see the color red everywhere and they can relate it to other things..so try that and Bless You.. |

Come to an English Language school. There are many in Malta and they will give a full immersion programme in English. I know one lady who came with no English language at all and left fluent. Typically people come for two weeks and as well as learning English they have a good time as Malta is also a cool tourist destination. |

Tell him to listen to a radio or watch American
TV, Then he could go to school and learn how to spell words and read. |

Better to start with an english course where he can learn the basis of the language. Then the best thing to do is a full-immersion.Surrounded just by people talking english. In 1 month he will be able to talk, not perfectly, but at least it will be possible to communicate with him. |

start with simple things like Hi, how are you . etc. or better yet get them to sign up for Adult Education classes in English as a Foreign Language while you sign up for one in Russian. |

I will suggest 2 ways. One is to go to a English as Second Language class. Second is to get an on-line course going. I know a website that offers an on-line Lanaguage learning program. This program contains comprehensive English lessons from pronounciation to sophisticated Business Presentation. There are interactive audio lessons and tests to help you learn English progressively. This website does charge a very minimal cost. It's all worth it. The website is: www.learningwell.en101.com Press the enroll tab to enroll. |
