Bob-bob
Amsterdam is the capital of the Netherlands although the seat of government is in the Hague.

EmZ
Holland isn't a nation. Amsterdam is officially the capital city of The Kingdom of the Netherlands.
The Hague is the administrative center of the Netherlands

The capitol of north-holland is haarlem
the capitol of south-holland is the hague

the capitol of the netherlands is amsterdam
the government of the netherlands seats in the hague.
and the queen lives in soestdijk.

i believe we have everything covered now.

faye
The capital is Amsterdam. The Hague is just another important city, where the government is centered.

Capital....Amsterdam. Seat of Government....Den Haag (The Hague.
Let's get this right. I, as well as many other people, know that the correct name of 'Holland' is Nederland (Netherlands), but---------- wherever you go in the Netherlands you will find that almost all souvenirs of that country such as Delft ware, wooden clogs, windmills, figures in national dress etc. etc. bear the name Holland (a present from, or souvenir of), and very rarely do you find the terms Nederland or Netherlands. Plus the vast majority of native Nederlanders accept Holland as the name of their Country. So the conclusion must be drawn that they, and the 'tourist industry', accept the fact that a large percentage of the foreign visitors know they have visited 'Holland'

As all people with the right answer got a thumb down, (someone who does not know thinks he is smart?) here a link to a site that explains all.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capital_of_the_Netherlands

Amsterdam is the capital of the country.
The Hague is the governmental seat, not the capital.
And the provincial capital of the province Amsterdam is in is Haarlem, so Amsterdam only has the city council, not any more important one. But Capital even so.

PS,
Zwink,
You are a bit behind, Juliana lived in Soestdijk,
Beatrix in 's-Gravenhage, Huis Ten Bosch, from 13 august 1981
