If not australia ;-) I'd suggest
- Canary Islands
- Madeira
- Malta

Maybe most mediterranean islands will provide relatively warm weather (compared to the continent), as well as mainland southern Spain and Portugal. In general: The more west you go the less you will feel possible influences of cold air coming e.g. from "Russia" or the arctic.
___________

Have just been informed that the term "Russia" might be misleading or funny. Maybe better read "northeastern Europe" instead.

Benidorm,Tunisia,Turkey,or Hurgadda,Sharm El Sheik.

Well the Canary Islands are a safe bet, and not too expensive though it depends what you are looking for in a Holiday i went to Tenerife a few years ago in winter time, but i hated the place, the resort we stayed in was like Blackpool, no offence but it wasn't my cup of tea.

vienna is not very warm, but it's the place to be on christmas. the whole city is just magical at this time of year. you wouldn't regret it.

When I was living in the UK ( and experiencing my first winter christmas) a friend and I decided we needed to see the sun and got a good deal ( less than 2 weeks prior to leaving) for 1 week, half board and flights to Spain from Stanstead ( south of Barcelona)...i think it cost 200pounds and we stuffed ourselved with food for the week.
We saw the sun, but it was cool for the most part.

Now I have travelled to Croatia I would also recommend it as a cheap option...on the coast will be warmer than inland. eg Dubrovnik and Split....or try and island!!!
