Corfu and Mosquitoes? |
We are thinking of going to Corfu in late Sept, early Oct. Has anyone been at this time of year - and if so, did you have a problem with Mosquitoes? Thanks for reading! |

From a local
You already got some answers that are true and some exaggerating .
No more mosquitoes than anywhere else in the world.
NO MALARIA.
If you are "sweet-blooded " as we say in Greece then you will get more than your fair amount of bites.
Either a repellent , easily found in any store, big or small, or vinegar if you can stand the smell, can do the trick.
One more fact is that the late September to early October period is a cool one, and the mosquitoes are fewer than in the summer.
Avoid using spiral repellents inside a room, since are heavily scented and make sleep difficult unless you leave it out of the window.
We use inexpensive electric appliances with liquid repellent that can last for forty days. Keep its box and take it back home in the end. Baygon is quite good. Follow instructions.
The possibility of having places that mosquitoes breed spayed, has been discussed by local Government. Don't know the outcome since nature activist were against. However the number of mosquitoes is generally lower in some places. |

It depends on the temperature. But even at the worst time of heat in Greece, the mosquitos are not a problem if you are prepared. It is not like you are going to an Amazon jungle. You just need a mosquito repellent lotion in the evening. You can find many in every pharmacy in Greece.
And you can't have malaria from mosquitos in Greece, because this disease is not endemic here. |

We came back two weeks ago and I've never known anything like it! I finally got a bit of colour on me and it was ruined by horrible big red bites.
Take some repellant with you and you'll be fine.
By the way, we also had a little earthquake when we there, quite exciting! |

I went at the end of September a couple of years ago and there were a few of the blighters, but I didn't get bitten to shreds. I used those anti-mosquito candles and covered myself in Adidas body spray (they hate it). Also used it in South America and didn't get bitten once. I also used mosquito spray in the rooms and used it once in the morning and once before bedtime. Have fun. |

use insect repellent. you can spray it on or roll it on or use cream. my son lives in corfu and he says mossies never bite him but he is either out at sea or inside of a bar. . corfu is lovely . have a good time. |
|

? What ?

There always out at any time. When I went to Malta in the summer, there was a lot around however I only got a few bites. |

Hiya, growing up we went every year this time of year to Corfu. Generally the weather is slightly un-predictable, this could be argued for the reason mosquitos are wanting somewhere to escape.
When i first went to corfu we wasn't expecting the mosquitos - first day, we was mosquitoed up. I remember once i went to the loo, came out with 3 mosquito bites on my baby finger - still got the scars some 5 years later.
I would recommend BATHING in the stuff - always remembering to reapply as you would sun cream.
This is going to sound discusting - but a old greek man saw me suffering from mosquitos once, and he went into a local resturant, came out with a napkin and a bottle of vinegar - guess what ... dab it.... it relieves it!! |
