Dear English-speaking people! Have you ever heard of Belarus? |
They say that people from English-Speaking countries(especially America) have never heard of Belarus. Is that true? You have never heard nothing? Do you think it is Russian town? |

Of course I have. My great grandfather was from there. Or Poland. Depends on the time and the changing borders.
And anyone who knows anything about gymnastics (esp. women's)knows Belarus because of The Belarussian Swan (Elena Boginskaya, right?) I must apologize to my niece the Gymnast...she would kill me for blanking out here.
And in answer to your question, those same people who don't realize that a former republic is NOT a town, probably don't know that Canada is not a State (of the US) and that Korea is NOT in Australia.
There are plenty of Americans who know nothing of their own towns, much less the rest of the world. Don't take offense. |

I also know Belarus, and that it is a country, maybe not very democratic, but hopefully on its way.... |

Yes i have heard of Belarus and have had expeience of some of the children from there. We live in England and several of my partners` family occasionally bring over here some children from Belarus who were effected by and survived the atomic energy station that exploded. they spend several weeks here being fed well and receiving the best attention that we can give, plus presents to take home.
They were teken to Poole Pottery and saw how things were made, then givenmuge especially made for them.
The name of the man that went there and brought them back was Jef Hiscocks from exeter and he is a fireman there. |

I'm sorry, I'm not a native English speaker but I know Belarus. It's a country in eastern Europe that lies east of Russia, south of Lithuania and north of Ukraine. Its capital is Minsk. |

Certainly have heard of it...
What's the problem? It's not how famous a place is that matters, it's how nice it is to live there.
Jenny in lovely Portugal (small and not very significant, but a great place to be). |
