Let me put in this way: Once I was at the Fumicino airport in Rome and I overherd a goup of greek tourists, waiting for the same flight to Athens, complaining about Florence that it was a disgusting city with old buildings all over, and no important places for shopping (clothes)....
So, it depends on the education of each individual...

I love traveling to historical places and I wouldn't be wrong if I say I have seen all the historical sites and museums in Turkey.

Knowing the history and being at that location is one of the most exciting things for me.

Because SEEING the place without appropriate knowledge to go along is meaningless. See Ephesus, it's just stones. When you read books about ancient civilizations, it gets more meaningful. So, only people who are really interested in history, near or far, can appreciate historical places. The rest of the "cultural" tourism is just hype.
