First of all, any kind of fanaticism is harmful...
You sure can criticize Ataturk, as long as you don't do it with an attitude.
And even if you don't have an attitude, while criticizing, you might encounter some fanatics, whom you should just ignore...

Some Turkish people are really fanatics of Ataturk, while some are fanatics of Ottoman empire, and some are fanatics of Fenerbahçe (which we call hooligans). And they are all harmful for the society. The damage they cause differ by just the power they have.
Same things hold for English and French and Chinese etc.

Criticize Ataturk????? Last ten days I was on a tour in Turkey. We stopped at Samsun, where he started the war of
independence. We visited the replica of the ship he sailed in and also the museum.
The more one learns about him, the more one admires him. He has done so much in such a short time. He was not just a brilliant soldier, he was also a great statesman, a linguist, a historian, a peace-builder, a diplomat, a law maker, an author, a fashion designer, a gentleman......
To those who try to criticize him I say "Do one tenth of what he did under the same conditions, and then you might have the right to criticize him".
I respect any reasonable difference of opinion as long as it does not contain racism, fundamentalism or insult.
BUT, if you try to insult Ataturk or "criticize" him without a foundation then I get very angry.
No he was not a God, he was chosen by God to serve humanity.

Ataturk is the founding father of the Turkish Republic. He is also a respected thinker and nation-builder around the globe. He is both cherished and criticized. Different interest groups have different opinions on philosophies of certain leaders. He may be criticized by certain groups, but he is loved and admired by others. I guess it depends on where you stand on the political platform, and how well you research a certain topic.

Leprechaun
Ataturk can be criticized. He was a human. But he had a brilliant mind and courage. That's why people of this country loves him.

But it is not very expected that an idiot like you would ever understand that.

Gokbayrak
You are exaggerating. Turks respect him because they feel he was the last "Han" of modern times.

Ataturk did much to advance Turkey and his accomplishments should not be diminished. I am certain that people are open to the fact that he was less than perfect, but proper respect should be attributed to this leader. If you want to discuss his leadership intellectually, perhaps you should try to adopt a more diplomatic tone to establish credibility with those whose beliefs you are attacking.

There is a huge difference between criticizing a person and attacking a person.Atatürk showed how much respect he deserves with his magnificent achievements. However, people do not mention the things he did. Therefore, they are not criticism but propaganda.

It must be hard for you to understand the place of a real hero, a founder of a republic and a saviour since the only hero for provocateurs like you know cried like a baby when arrested and told everything he knew, and begged not to be executed...

Darth Vader
We adore him despite all his faults.

Well from your question we can see that you are uncultured. So get some education first and then you can maybe ask better questions.

If you still have any values that you be live in, remove this question.

You are blocked and I invite all my friends to block you.

Where are you from? What would you feel if I said your country's founding father is an ugly, ignorant, no-good woman abuser?

Wouldn't it be nice if we were a little politer about each other's values?
