Let me tell you something and I have been to Russia 3 times and my wife is Russian.
1) first if you don't have a invitation you can get a visa and of course you need a passport.
2) A tourist agency or Hotel to get you
3) getting Visa is easy through any Visa agency coats about 100 to 150 per person in 10 business days.
