Do shops etc. take Euros in Poland or only Zloty?

Polo
The Euro will not be adopted officially in Poland until 2012, although many shops will take them and will also take British Pounds.

In most places close to the German border (especially gas stations etc) the shops accept Euros out of curtesy to the customers. They charge for this of course, either a small fixed fee or through a bad exchange rate. In the rest of Poland you'll have to pay in Zloty.

They will take Euros or dollars at the current exchange rate.
Zloty is the counry's currency for now.

well right now they use zloty but in about 2012 they will make the change to euros

luckylou808
In my experience I've never had any problem to pay with Euro.
One thing to consider is to bring smaller notes with you as any change you get will be given in local currency.
Also, somethings may be slightly more expensive than when paid for with Euro.
Enjoy your trip.

mostly zloty but there are some places that will take euros ,british pounds and dollars

trickz_star
Zloty - maybe some town were is a lot of tourist use euros.

The official currency is zloty.
However, many shops (especially the bigger ones, like all my local general stores), mainly along German border, will accept Euro as well. However, keep in mind the exchange rate is not going to be good for you.

airports most likely would take euros and places near the border such a germany. the zloty is taken all over poland though and not the euro

annette1773
It depends where you go. Certain parts of Poland take the Euro already. But practically all stores take zloty. When I was in Poland this summer, you could have exchanged your money to the Euro. But not all stores are accustomed to taking Euro. So its better to just stick to zloty.

Actually the bigger metropolitan areas take both, but mainly the Zloty. The break down is about 75% Zloty to 25% Euro.

unicornpeg2003
The bigger shops take Euros but prefer Zloty. If you pay in Euros they will give you change in Zloty.
