No, not the great majority but there are places which are very close to Syrian and Iraqi border where people have relatives in those countries and due to business relations, they are able to speak both.

There are quite a number of words that Turkish "imported" from Arabic, Persian and Greek languages since we live in the same geographic area for about a thousand years so we can understand some words when we speak to an Arabic,Persian or Greek person, though.

I am Turkish who is currently living in an Arabic country and I can understand the subject of the conversations if I pay attention.

It is the richness of our culture, as far as I believe.

Edit : The series of Kivanc Tatlitug are being dubbed by Arabic dubbing artists. He actually speaks Turkish in the original series :)

I think you have watched a TV show titled Gumus? or Gumas? Which is popular in the Arab world, and have made a mistake with the Arabic dubbing which was put in place so a wider audience could watch the show :)

I have never heard a Turk speak Arabic or write Arabic.

In Southern Turkey, particularly in the area of Mersin and Adana where I grew up, there are a lot of Arabic speaking people. My grandparents (4 of them) spoke and speak (one is still alive) Arabic fluently although it's not their first language. My parents who grew up in this area know a few expressions and sentences from daily life.

There are a few Arabic words that are similar to Turkish words. For example, in Arabic it is Ramadan and in Turkish it is Ramazan.

Turkish people speak Turkish as well as Arabic or German or French or Spanish or English or...or..or...like any where in the world.

Bleda The Mad
No we can't. But there are lots of Arabic words in Turkish.

I suppose that some turks might, especially if they are deeply religious, sinse Arabic is the language of Islam.... But in general, most turks do NOT. Actually, I have discovered that aside from their native language, the second most spoken language in Turkey is actually English. It is taught in most schools. Arabic lessons are taken at quranic schools or in private language institutions. So if Kivanc speaks a little arabic, it's mostly because he is a celeb in the whole area and he probably had to learn a little to communicate. But in general, most Turks do NOT speak arabic.
some turkish words actually stem from Arabic... Hamam, Selam, Merhaba... But they are like ethimological roots established during years and years of Ottoman influence. Many turks are actually surprised when they see the similarities.

İlayda E
nope, why should we??

Stuart
No, Turks don't speak Arabic language, many Turks know Arabic prayers by heart, but very often they don't understand what they are about.
