Do you feel sad or depressed in the Winter time?

I hate Winter, it is so dark every day and it makes me feel like I don't want to go out of the house but in Summer I am totally different, I wake up really early and want to be outside all the time. Do you guys in Turkey get this or is it not so dark and dull there during Winter?

No, I like winter a lot! Actually, it's my favorite season along with fall :D

I hate summers here lol.

Well, I prefer Spring and Summer times, of course...And in fact that's simply a biological fact that we feel much better and glad when the Sun is bright...

But Winter season has his spell too, especially the snowy days with immaculated white landscaps...That's just beautiful watching...The problem is that in town the cars and the crowd make this snow turn into dirty black water (carbon dioxyd, car wheels, people's feet,etc...).
White Winters seem to be magical, and I suppose that means even more for the people who celebrate Christmas...

I love fall and winter....a nice cozy fire and snuggle up with your sweetie or go skiing.....And when it snows it makes everything look brand new and clean again......

I'm a little more the opposite. The summer humidity drains me but the winter seems to make me feel alive constantly. I love layering up in the winter too. It's a sad confession to make but I love clothes, so the more of them I get to wear at one time the better, and when I go in and get to disrobe / layer down (hmmm both of those sound too suggestive, sorry :) it's like I'm on the catwalk or something. :D

There is a medical condition called S.A.D. that affects people in the winter time, it is from lack of sunlight.

yeah i feel the same. not depressed but dont wanna go out or be at home all the time or in the bed. i like watching the rain at home. and snow. i dont like uk winter its so wet but in turkey we have snow in winter time.its much nicer...

Trotsky vs Kerensky- НекIо!
Are you kidding? I love winter! Especially like today, it was very rainy and cold here. I feel so relaxed and peaceful. Also everything good that ever happened to me were on winter days :)

You guys know Garbage's song? "I'm only happy when it rains...I only smile in the dark" Yep that's me!

I hate winter. In Turkey despite the cold life goes on normally it is as active as in summer but i miss the sun, sandals, light clothes, skirts:-)

edit: the only time i like winter is actually christmas and new year's time :-))

Surely I share your feelings about winter in northern climes. That is why I moved to the tropics and have been here 30 years.

Yes, and it deffinatly sounds like Seaonal Affective Disorder. Don't worry, it's not bad, you just feel crappy during winter. I have it sort of, along with panic disorder, and I am 13! It's tourture! But ew, I know winter sucks. Hope you get better, and I hope winter goes by FAST! We could only pray.
Much love,
alexx

Only when the season changes, i.e. for some time in fall and spring. Don't ask me why in spring. I don't know what the guy was thinking when he was wiring up my nerves. :)))

check out the web site for a product line called Northern Lights. they sell special lights you plug in and set to wake you up with light therapy. supposed to be very effective against seasonal affective disorder (SAD)

Also you go to Antalya, don't live in Istanbul...

Yea I get that too, I hate how it is cold, trees are bare, dark when you get up and dark when you go home from work. For the first few months I am ok with it but once mid - end of Jan comes I start to really get pissy and moody and just want it to start warming up.

"It doesn't get that cold in Texas" <---I won't mind if I was from TX, I'm from WI and I mean COLD -20 with the wind,,,,,thats cold

Its the best time of the year!! its not too damn hot, the clothes are betther and you can drive around without the sun constantly in your face. I think its great and at least there is Thanksgiving and Christmass. I hate Jan. and Feb. when its really cold and boring.

kjokergo11
Maybe a little because of the terrible cold temps and the worst is loosing all the daylight for 6 weeks, to where the sun does not come up tell about 8 Am, and sets about 4:30 PM here in Minnesota. So a lot of days are kept doing little inside stuff and keeping the walks and drives open of snow is good for expercise though and the freshest air around

NeverWithMe
It happens everywhere. It is because you have to get familiar with the new time, season, temperature etc.
It is true, everybody does! But don't give up, you will soon come up with your regular smile again! xp !!!

No, cause the strip clubs get busier and i'm not mentally weak to put myself in a depressed state like others! It's all in the mind, you have the ability to walk out and do things, it's just that your mind tells you to be weak and be depressed. Just get out and have fun like I do with my friends at the strip club. Winter or Summer, it doesn't matter cause it's all good and we have a fun time. Quit being a whiner and get up and to the mall, right now!!

ameeker
It sounds like you have Seasonal Affective Disorder

I'm in the US and I love winter. It snows here all the time and it just lights up the entire landscape! :) I can't understand why you'd think it's dark and gloomy, when it's such a beautiful time of the year.

It is called Seasonal Affective Disorder. It happens sometimes. Try to get out during the day time to get a little bit of the sunlight - it will help you feel better.

I am in Canada and yes I have also felt that way in the winter.

I have started to take vitamin D which is contained in certain foods and sunlight (believe it or not). Since I started taking about 800 units per day I have noticed a definite improvement in how I feel now that the dreary fall weather is here.

The Canadian medical association (see 2nd link below) recommends adults get vitamin D in their diet or take supplements. If nothing else the vitamin is associated with a number of positive health properties. I find it also gives me added energy and a less gloomy outlook when the weather is overcast. It might work for you as well.
