I agree, Утомлённые солнцем is a great film - I especially love watching it while wearing a Russian hat, eating blini, and washing the blini down with vodka shots. ;-) @ Slava. Here are two more films that I'd recommend:
Особенности национальной охоты - one of the funniest Russian movies you'll ever see, and gives a really good insight into the Russian character.
Вор - one of the most depressing Russian movies you'll ever see, and is an interesting look at post-War Russia. Check out http://ruskino.ru/mov/forum/1 for some comments about this film (plus you can search for other Russian films on that site as well). |

Very nice film with English subtitles.
Unfortunately YouTube has deleted account that contained many Russian films with subtitles.
But you can find and download many films in Russian on http://torrents.ru/ It's free.
Some of DVDs there has subtitles in English.
And you can find many Russian subtitles here:

Good Luck! |

Probably the most famous Russian movie in the United States is "The Battleship Potemkin" ("Bronenosets Potyomkin"). It's a "must see" for movie enthusiasts and should be doubly interesting for a student. |

"Thief", "Admiral", "Mermaid", "Tiski". If you like musicals, "Stilyagi" is not bad. If you into fantasy movies like "Wanted", you can watch "Night Watch" and "Day Watch" ( the second one is significantly better). |

If you liked "Burnt by the sun" you'd definitely have to see "Barber of Siberia" (made by the same director).
You can also use the great site http://www.russianremote.com and watch Russian movies, concerts and many more online =) |

Awesome movie..I cried watching it because it was sooo good. It's an unpredictable tale of love and life.
And if Cheburashka confuses you, don't worry. Some of it is just russian humor that is hard to understand unless your a Russian. :) |

It's about the history of Russia. The cool thing is, it was the first movie ever to be filmed in just ONE SHOT! |

I can name thousands of movies, I hope you can find some of them.
Have forgotten "War and Peace". |

I always wondered why do people outside Russia like Mihalkov's "Burnt by the Sun"? It is a real low quality kitsch intended to be consumed along with matreshkas, eating blini, wearing a Russian hat and drinking vodka. Shame on you! :) |
