TURKEY FOREVER

Do you know the turkish-made new weapon called MEHMETCIK-1? What's your opinion about it?

http://www.hurriyet.com.tr/gundem/7971876.asp?gid=180&sz=20998
http://www.haberturk.com/haber.asp?id=50088&cat=210&dt=2008/01/04
http://www.cnnturk.com/TURKIYE/haber_detay.asp?PID=318&haberID=417021

It seems to be more efficient than the G-3, the Kalashnikoff and the HK-44.
But do you think it's better than the M-16 or any other machine-gun?

Anyway, I'm glad that this is a product from turkish engineers...

It would be better for every country to feel proud for new achievements in science, art, literature and in general for things which help people and culture.

Not for things that kill and destroy !

Thanks for the information, mister...

Edit for Vaggos and Huh :
There is nothing to be proud in having weapons, but you have to keep in mind that every country has the legitimate right to be ready against any foreign attack. And that's what we call " deterrent" and " defense".
So imagine what could happen to a country, mine or yours, which would not even have good weapons?...

Wait minute Mehmet !

Congratulations on your new gun but if you want to compare that gun with AK47 Kalashnikov you have to test it in battles, for the next 60 years all over the earth.

As about M-16 that you are having thoughts, kalashnikov proved much better than that gun even on the same battlefield (Vietnam)

and get this straight. "machine gun" and "assault riffle" are two different kinds of weapon.

M-16, G-3, AK47 are assault riffles
MG-3 is a machine gun

some of u guys seem to forget that most of the technological advances in the last decades are the results of the military advances made during World War II. and still most of the "advanced" western countries make fortunes by selling armament. I personally don't aprove the military, realist conception of policy makers, but if u "advanced" Westerners believe that u are peaceful people concerned with the World commonwealth, u are most mistaken under the delusions of ur own war-mongering politicians.

This new 'rifle' is designed to injure, rather than kill. This was a rather old American theory that when a soldier gets killed in action, his friends continue to fight. But when he is injured, about two other soldiers carry him back, decreasing the number of fighters by 3!
The new Turkish rifle Mehmetçik-1 resembles American rifles like M-16, M-50 etc. Anyway, I do not like guns. They kill people. I do not like shotguns either, because they kill wild and free animals.

Huh?
What do you mean by "more efficient"???
Are those that you shoot at with this gun MORE dead afterwards????
It's a gun.........made for war.......so what???

very nice...

however any new weapon in today's world would be more efficient than the G-3

Used both AK-47 and G-3, but this thing looks awesome. I wish we used one of these while I was serving. I heard it will fire 7.62mm slugs as opposed to the hk-36 which was never a good idea. I wasn't expecting them to develop it in such a short time. Let's see how it will perform in the field.

@ I am against the use of violence but holding a well built rifle just feels great.

I am not to crazy about arms, i seen what they can do, some of my best friends been killed by them front of my eyes , so i wish the world gave up making them , but not being a perfect world , i guess we have to have them , and if it means Turkey will not rely on other nations for supply of small arms at a huge costs
then yes it's a good thing for Turkey , i hope it's a deterrent, for the enemy's of Turkey

The Mehmetcik-1 rifle is an obvious clone of the HK 416. It appears not to have any modifications or upgrades whatsoever other than it's changed markings.

I will not be surprised if HK sues the MKE.

on the other hand perhaps it's a lisenced copy, in that case the news is wrong and it is not a 100 percent domestically produced weapon as the design is copied.

Well technically "yes" this weapon is supperrior to it's predecessors. It is more durable, accurate, light, and modifiable than any of these weapons you listed....good choice...I just thought, they'd give a G3 a new paint job and market it as a modern rifle...
