People are nice there...
Wish they could speak English too..
Local brews suck (super bock in particular) but the sea food is delicious.
I was stunned to see drug dealers walking freely in Conquistadores square even in daytime. |

I am Portuguese and I live in Portugal.
I like my country, it has stunning places and beautiful cities, like Lisboa, where I live... Things could be much better but all countries have "issues".
Just a comment: Nicky C, I am very glad you enjoy Portugal. "things get done, when they get done" is a very good characterization of the Portuguese people but not even close to what you can call a good characteristic! ;) |

Yes. Adore it. Travelled all over Europe and Northern Africa in a motor home for two years and kept coming back to Portugal - which is where i now live. The people are friendly, the scenery is stunning and very diverse - just driving 50 kilometres you can see the changes.
Where I live in Central Portugal it's stunning - lakes, hills, rivers, forests and lots of castles (from Knights Templar days) .
And it's a much more relaxed way of life. things get done, when they get done. Once you acclimatise to not racing around it's great. During the summer if I don't feel like working I don't and go down to the nearby lake for a swim! Bliss. |

I've been to Portugal a few times. I've found the people to be warm and friendly. I've also found the food to be quite good. There is so much to see and do and I highly recomend it.
One of the posts talks about drug dealers in the day time...I've never seen this and I've been in all the major cities.
One good thing about Portugal is even though it's on the Euro, it's still not that expensive to go visit. For example, a coffee in Portugal is less than 1 Euro but in France, that same coffee is 4 Euros. The same can be said for restaurants, museums, and some hotels.
I say, go there and explore! |

As a Portuguese, I love Portugal. And as a Portuguese I hate Portugal. I'm sure you can understand...
EDIT: I don't know who gave me a thumbs down but of course you're free to do it. You should also understand that Portugal isn't like the holidays somewhere idyllic at your grandma's and that life in Portugal may not at all be as nice as it may feel when you visit in the summer. Just because of the arrogant thumbs down, ok? Oh and about the coffee price, it's no term of comparison because coffee's always been cheaper than anywhere else because it used to come from Angola and Mozambique and then the prices remained low - but life in Spain, for example, for those who live there, is cheaper and salaries are way better. I just thought I had to explain. In case you need some more explaining, I'll explain some more. |
