It as the time that we all watched breathless the catastrophy and the endeavours of rescuers to save people burried alive under the ruins.
Greece sent aid and rescuers for support.
After a few days a similar catastrophy stroke Greece.
Turkiye sent aid and rescuers for support, too.
Over ruins, death and pain we all became a family.
I wish it lasted....

It is hard to believe it's been 8 years. How fast the time passes.
But i do remember the pain it caused just as it was today. Maybe we didn't get injured physically and that i didn't loose anyone from my family but we had the same feelings with our brothers and sisters.

I remember. I was not in it, but we were watching the news day and night and crying for what we were seeing.

I hope we never never experience something like this again.

"orda kimse var mı...?"
This is something I will never forget. Yes I remember the dreadful, tragic event quite clearly. Nature hit where humans showed weakness. Unfortunately it was the innocent that suffered, not the guilty and responsible ones.
After 8 years, all those building contractors who stole from materials for more money, all those 'authorities' who did not 'see' all this are out walking happily outside, while more than 20,000 died and their relatives and friends are still suffering from the pain.

it was a tragedy!

our hearts were broken - I remember my self being infront of tv, waiting to hear that another person were found alive in the ruins..

and I remember the passionate effords of both Greeks and Turks to help those who were missing

but that moments were a proof to our oppontents, that we can and act with one heart and one soul

Yes, I remember those are days I will never forget. Odd because I was watching the news today on Peru thinking of how ironic. It is still the day before here in the USA but yes I remember. I was there in 99 off a plane from Germany no more than 10 hours that is something one trip I will never be able to forget. The word earthquake was redefined for me those following days. My faith in God was both tested and fortified spiritually. My medical knowledge was tested cerebrally and my physical endurance tested. (A good thing us Americans pack on a few extra pounds of reserve energy.)

I stayed for 6 weeks in Turkey that trip I ended up in Canakkale. where I read this;

“Those heroes that shed their blood and lost their lives…
You are now lying in the soil of a friendly.
Therefore rest in peace, there is no difference between the Johnnies and the Mehmets to us where they lay side by side, here in this country of ours…
You, the mothers, who sent their sons from far away countries, wipe away your tears;
Your sons are now lying in our bosom and are in peace.
After having lost their lives on this land they have become our sons as wellâ€

Then my opinion changed, to Emergency aid provided by countries, that one never would have expected, We were all the same people on the earth that day. Amazing how it takes a disaster to remind us we are all brethren.

My prayers and thoughts to those lost and injured 8 years ago today.

Edit: Yes "I-run u-run we-run" Sadly the building standards are not stringent enough. Those that exist are not enforced. I fear for your major cities and towns their people.

I don't think any of us will be able to forget...they've been touched by it one way or another. On one hand it's great to see how other countries come together to give help, but then it's sad because once everything was cleaned/fixed, went back to normal and now they are just neighbors. When the earthquake happened we were all just human. Now we are Turks, Greeks, Americans, etc...

A bad nightmare. We all are in the streets. But people in Gölcük werent as lucky as us.I remember and will never forget.

And I watched in the news.A big one will happen in Marmara. Please managers,do something. We cant stop earthquake but can do smt to decrease its' damages.

somerlo
Yes, how can we forget? People burried alive, whole cities destroyed, I wonder what happened to all those homeless people. Have they recovered by now?

thank God, someone remembered the earthquake
this shows that we learn nothing from the past, there is still (almost) no protection taken by the government. our lives are too cheap for politicians.

Yes I do, but is still yesterday here. (the 16th)
It is still unbelievable that something so bad could REALLY happen. I'm in New Orleans now and the effects of hurricane Katrina are everywhere and it is bad but it is nothing compared with what happen in Turkey.
Thanks for reminding us that we are lucky to be alive.

I remember and I'm angry. Nothing ever changed. No precautions taken. We are all too ready for a larger disaster. I feel like beating all the voters who voted for these same embezzler mayors. I don't believe in democracy any more. At least not the democracy we are practicing. I have decided to be the good tyrant that was discussed thousands of years ago.

Edit: HFC, we're not strangers, you can call me Ayran:P
