Do you think Turkey is able to join the European Union EU?

I doubt it. We should have had a president of democracy in order to get in. Now we have a fundamental, conservative party ruling over Turkey. The chance of getting into the EU is around 2% if we still have him. He wants to apply Islamic rules, and change our beautiful free country into a country full of Islamic rules, such like Iran. The EU, because I am studying this, does not prefer to have a Muslim country in the EU, especially when there are strict Muslim men governing the country. Due to this, our chance of getting into the EU is very little. As soon as the party closes, which I think it will, and we get a proper government such as the CHP, the democratic party which has been formed by our founder, Ataturk, the chance of us getting into the EU will be higher, and will increase to around 75% or so. The other 25% which I believe why it's hard to get in, is because we are a Muslim, and the fact that not our whole country is in Europe. Only Istanbul, a big city, and that is the 1 of the 8th part of Turkey.

I do hope that we get into the EU.

In the next 20 y i don't believe.
Because:
1) Turkey have to achieve some democracy standards, human rights and other issues about society, such the heavy of religion in the society, and the respect towards other religions, such as the christians.
2) Turkey also have to achieve some economic standards they don't have yet.
3) As long Turkey don't resolve serious questions such as Kurds, Cyprus, Greece and the islamic radical groups infiltrated in society, it will be hard to Europe to accept turkish in our space...

yes but the Cypriot problem must be solved first so support President Christofias and President Ali-Talat :P

Here are the main reasons I have read for Turkey not being able to join the EU:

The standard of living needs to rise. ($12,900 GDP per capita, 7.9% unemployment with an additional 4% underemployed)

Also, the country's debt level is too high (debt levels as a percentage of GDP, not just the actual number. There are countries with much higher government deficits but their GDP is higher so as a percentage of total GDP the debt needs to be taken care of but not as urgent as a country with high government debt as a percentage of GDP) Economic reforms have been underway and need to be completed.

I mean, it wasn't long ago that inflation reached 70% (in the last decade) and the Turkish Lira got about 6 zeros removed from the currency. Now they have made great progress, and need to economically stabilize a bit more before being accepted.

Joining EU now will be like joining a party at a late hour when everyone is already drunk and fighting with each other.

Turkey has fulfilled all the requirements to be a EU member but has not been able to get into the EU because its an Islamic country.
