Do you think Turks are the best...?

I've seen many times some saying "Turks are the best" and receiving noticeable support.I've got some questions:
1)Do you really think so?
2)Is there anything called "good" or "bad" nation?
3)If yes, have you compared Turks with ALL other nations of the world?
4)If yes, what aspects have you took for comparison?
5)How much time and effort have you spent for it?
6)So, can we have a list of nations sorted from best to worst and as a encourage of your work, we can give it to UN to sort the different flags in that order from top to down. (?)

Besides, 10 points + possible thumbs-up for the one can answer questions reasonably and move to the next...
Good Luck!

What I ask, isn't my idea (necessarily). I just ask them and not that seriously...!

I think those who feel their country is the best have accepted and tolerated what ever goes on in their Governments and truly feel their country has achieved all its goals.

I think Turkey has no civil rights especially for women. I believe their laws against freedom of speech are unacceptable, but I do not live there either.

The people who live in Turkey are not prisoners and can leave if they choose to. It is obvious that they feel that not
having these rights have not detoured them from feeling Turkey is the best and have come to the realization Turkey may never have these rights.

So in reality what they are saying is it is the best it can only ever be.

John R
Best in what? This is so hypothetical. The Lord above did not create good or bad nations. I never saw anyone saying his/her nation is the best. That is why I am against the 'permanent' membership of the UN Security Council. What makes those 5 countries 'better' or 'higher' than the others that they have the right to veto and others do not.
There are good or bad individuals in every nation, community, religion etc. It is so wrong and unhumanistic to label any nation as such. But since I started frequenting Turkey section here, I have been observing certain individuals who are trying to label Turkish people as bad. As a man who travels extensively, I cannot agree nor accept that kind of labeling.
This world is so small, and human life so short, it really isn't worth fighting each other. We need to overcome our prejudices and biases and see each other as equal.

Never heard of "Turks are the best"...as for the UN, they're nothing but a big joke..."negotiation" is the one word they like to throw around all the time. this basically means, "we see evil, but let's turn a blind eye while trying to look like we actaully do any good to this world"

Dear Vahe,
I am sorry I am not going by order...lol

I have seen the opposite phrase, “Turks are the worst in the whole world”, well I can't blame its people, they are brain washed by their government and the strong ones who got away from being brain washed talk about the truth, about the stolen culture of other countries, about the invaded lands of other countries, about if they would have stayed in turkey they would get either burned or jailed or just disappear., they are confused, muslims, secular?, “Democrats” extremes
etc. what can I say?
Why do you think it takes forever to get in EU?

I am sure the phrase you saw was in turkish sites and written by turks not everywhere. (Another brain washed things, its useless to help them all now)....but some say it is possible.

Claudia
Every Nation has there good and bad people.

Earthling
Of course there's not anything like good or bad nation. And it's funny you take this as serious and ask a question about it.

Of course people of any nation may have such drives to call themselves as the best. You can go and praise your own nation the same way. I wouldn't go and tell you you're wrong although I believe no nation is superior or inferior to the other. It's your opinion and you're entitled to it.

So simple.

Ipek K
Vahe,

We are not the best nor the worst. Actually that is " sports talk " for me; rather ridiculous actually. There are over 70 million people in Turkey and a lot all over the world and nobody should say that their nation is flawless since there is no such thing.

Generalization leads to racism and I am not a supporter of it. Although I would defend my nation and my country for and false accusations and blames, it doesn't mean that I don't know our down sides as well as ups.

If you can class nations from best to worst(other thant he fact that you can't do that) than wouldn't everybody be extremely racist???

A rather absurd and chauvinistic question. People are good, bad, better, best , worse and worst as individuals and not as members of any ethnic group.

Totally Blunt
Absolutes donot exist in real world.

In my case, I haven't lived elsewhere and except for visits, I don't think I would want to. I like the region I live in, the culture I exist among and would uphold this republic's founding principles with all my might.

And you are reading it wrong. "Turks are the best" interprets "I prefer Turks to other nations/cultures I know". It doesn't mean somebody thinks Turks are above anything on earth. We don't have elvish racism.

Why would it bother anyone that somebody likes his/her own nation, or that some foreigner likes the people he/she meets or the places he/she visits? Such people exist everywhere. I'm sure there are people out there, who would say "Iran is the best", too.

And I advise you to keep your points for the people you have chosen to line up with. They outcast heretical views.

1. I dated a Turkish man and have known Turks. They are very nice, warm and loving people ! I do love their culture and they are generally good looking ! The men I have known that were Turkish we very spitirtual (in a good way), very intelligent, and romantic. I know you cannot generlalize, but I'm just telling you from my experiences.
2. No I don't think there really is a "good" or "bad" nation. Unless you mean in terms of poverty and government. Everyone is equal. We're all gods creation, all human !
3 & 4. Well, I have noticed that for Turks being Muslim they are not at all pushy or radical. Many people have a prejudice towards Muslims and I do not know why. Many Muslims are very respectful of other religions and are balanced people.
5. Not really too much.
6. Well, I'm not sure about that. Turkey is a very beautiful country and the majority of the people seem to be respectful citizens but I don't think we should really rank the nations.

Hope I helped :) I didn't really get some of your questions !

There is no nation better than other or the best or whatever.
This is just like when you say "the football team i support" is the best.
The only thing i can not support is false accusations. And people critising other people without knowing anything about them.

What a dumb question! I mean really, I am not saying this because you annoy me in anyway but I sense the need to sound witty and intelligent between those lines. In case you did not notice, this question can only be asked by someone with not only a low IQ but also with a low EQ. Have you ever heard the song "we are the champions"? I am sure you can ask at least a 100 dumb questions on that.

Btw, we Turks are the best and I believe it sincerely.

"The aim of the Armenian revolutionaries is to stir disturbances, to get the Ottomans to react to violence, and thus get the foreign powers to intervene."
Sir Philip Currie, the British Ambassador in Istanbul, 28 March 1894 (British Blue Book, Nr.6 1894, p.57 Or p. 87).

"The aims of the revolutionary committees are to stir up general discontent and to get the Turkish government and people to react with violence, thus attracting the attention of the foreign powers to the imagined sufferings of the Armenian people, and getting them to act to correct the situation."

Graves, the British Consul in Erzurum, reporting to the British Ambassador in Istanbul, on January 28, 1895. British Blue Book, Nr. 6 (1894), pp. 222-223

"The Dashnaks and Hunchaks have terrorized their own countrymen, they have stirred up the Muslim people with their thefts and insanities, and have paralyzed all efforts made to carry out reforms; all the events that have taken place in Anatolia are the responsibility of the crimes committed by the Armenian revolutionary committees."
Williams, The British vice-consul, writing from Van. (March 4, 1896, British Blue Book, Nr. 8 1896, p.108.)

"Those who in England are loudest in their sympathy with the aspirations of a(n Armenian) people ‘rightly struggling to be free’ can hardly have realized the atrocious methods of terrorism and blackmail by which a handful of desperados, as careful of their own safety as they are reckless of the lives of others, have too successfully coerced their unwilling compatriots into complicity with an utterly hopeless conspiracy."

Lord Warkworth, after paying a visit to Van. ( William Langer, The Diplomacy of Imperialism.)

''I do not deny the existence and the active propagandism of Armenian revolutionarists. I do not even deny that, to some extent, the religious war has been stimulated by Armenian political agitators.''

Antranig Azhderian, "The Turk and the Land of Haig, or Turkey and Armenia - Desciptive, Historical, and Picturesque," The Mershong Company, New York, 1898, p. 364.

"Our policy is to maintain our gratefulness to Russia, but at the same time induce Britain to help our cause. Our well-being is possible only in an independent Armenia. Do not be surprised at the word, for our motto is this: 'an Armenia ruled by Armenians'."

Nerses Varjabedian, Armenian Patriarch, writing in 1878 to Karakin (Garegin) Papazian, the head of the Armenian Committee in Manchester, England; while Armenians began to approach the Tsar for eventual Armenian independence, and of attempting to bring Britain into the picture. (Ermeniler ve 1915 Tehcir Olayi/Armenians and the 1915 Resettlement Episode, Prof. Azmi SĂŒslĂŒ,1990, p.45

(The Turks whose honor and the dignity you have been pummeling and mauling lo these many years, were) "...far better men and far abler rulers than the wretched tyrants whom they suppressed....the Turks were in advance, not of their Christian subjects alone, but of the greater part of Christian Europe."
Edson L. Clark (1827-1913), British anthropologist and historian, from his "Nations of the World" Series,1900, N.Y. (pp. 84,87.)

"In terms of per capita, US aid to Armenia is second only to Israel."
Keith Simmons, the US Agency for International Development's director in Armenia, in a paraphrased statement to Armenian community leaders in Boston, January 2003. (Source: "The State Department's Traveling Propaganda Show," David B. Boyajian, Armenian Weekly.) U.S. taxpayers have doled out over $1.5 billion to Armenia since her independence, largely due to the influence of Armenian-Americans, as the U.S. Ambassador to Armenia, John Ordway, stated in the same event.

“It is actually an understatement that there was no anti-Semitism in Turkey. In fact, there was a pro-Semitism. Ottoman governments treated their Jewish subjects with a special consideration and compassion as one of their own, as one of the most loyal and devoted subjects of the empire:”
Haim Nahum, last Grand Rabbi of the Ottoman Empire, (1924)

"We have first hand information and evidence of Armenian
atrocities against our people (Jews). Members of our family
witnessed the murder of 148 members of our family near Erzurum, Turkey, by Armenian neighbors, bent on destroying anything and anybody remotely Jewish and/or Muslim... Armenians were in league with Hitler in the last war, on his promise to grant themselves government if, in return, the Armenians would help exterminate Jews. Armenians were also hearty proponents of the anti-Semitic acts in league with the Russian Communists."

Elihu Ben Levi, Vacaville, California, letter, San Francisco Chronicle (December 11, 1983). [Armenian guerillas rounded up and massacred Jews in the area of Hakkari; in Trabzon and vicinity they massacred thousands of Greeks. The idea behind these atrocities was to secure an Armenian majority. (Kara Schemsi, Tures et Arméniens devant l'Histoire, GÚneve, Imprimerie Nationale, 1919, p. 49, 41). Jews were attacked everywhere; the Commander of Gendarmerie Regiment at Van recorded: "Some three hundred Jews trying to escape from Akaridan
were captured at the village of Sil and cut into pieces. Then (the Armenians) stacked the corpses." (Aspirations and revolutionary movements of the Armenian parties,. pp. 298-309) ]

"...As I became more knowledgeable and could compare cultures and countries around the globe with the passing of age and experience, we became much more appreciative of the benevolence of the Turkish people who harbored the Jewish people through incredibly barbaric times in the annals of European history. In retrospect of what we know of European history today, we owe Turkish people a great debt of gratitude for saving the lives of thousands of Jews."

Israel Hanukoglu, professor , College of Judea and Samaria
Ariel, Israel; from his Story of Turkish Jews

"We reject attempts to create a similarity between the Holocaust and the Armenian allegations. Nothing similar to the Holocaust occurred. It is a tragedy what the Armenians went through but not a genocide."
Shimon Peres, Nobel prize-winning Israeli Foreign Minister, as quoted in the April 10 2001 edition of the Turkish Daily News... where he further remarked claims of an Armenian Genocide are "meaningless."

"The great Turk is governing in peace twenty nations from different religions. Turks have taught the Christians how to be moderate in peace and gentle in victory"

Voltaire

“One should be blind to history not to understand the Turks.
The dignified silence of the Turks against the mounting unjustified attacks and mean slanders can only be explained by their pity for the blind.

How beautifully this attitude of theirs answers the undignified calumnies.”

Pierre Loti, French writer and traveller, “Fantome d’Orient” (1928)

(Loti added: "The Turk is the noblest of the nobles. This high nobility is not artificial or showy-- it is the gift of nature. The only people that can create simplicity out of magnificence, eloquence from silence, a sensitive vitality from a graceful calmness...are the Turks. The Orient is the land of dreams and legends. The Turk is the eye, the tongue, the light and the truth of that magic land.")

Many of the Ottoman officials were arrested and exiled to Malta by the occupation forces as a punishment for war crimes because of the stories and claims of so-called massacre against the Armenians; however, no evidence could be found against these persons neither in the capital of Ottomans, which was under occupation, nor in England and America, and finally they were released.

“I regret to tell you that there is no evidence against the Turks who are under arrest in Malta
There is not any concrete incident that could be presented as hard evidence! The reports, in no way, seem to constitute any useful additional information to support the information on Turks already available to Her Majesty’s government.” (The British Ambassador to Washington, R.C. Craigie’s message to Lord Curzon on July 13, 1921. PRO.FO.371/6504/E.8519)
