No, children and teenagers in Greece don't wear uniforms from...1982 (maybe I'm wrong for about a couple of years).
The educational belief that led to this, is that uniform prohibits/holds back the personal expression of the young people, who need to discover themselves and be encouraged to different from each other.
Teenagers in Greece can wear earrings, hats or having long hair (about the boys), it is not very strickt, but we do not have criminality cases either! |

Over 30 some years ago yes it was required but not now. School uniforms went out in the 1980s in Greece. |

No, they dont wear uniforms in school.
Not anymore.
Not since...er.. ...er... hmmmm... (let me do the math here...) I am 37 now and I had to wear a uniform (a "podia" it was called) until the beginning of the 2nd Class in Elementary School... so that would make it 1978 the year that school uniforms were abolished. :-)
Wow!!! 30 years ago!!!
Damn... I am old!! :-( |

No, they don't. Only at an exclusive private school would you wear a uniform, and I don't know very many of those at all.
I didn't wear one when I went to school there! |

No they don't but they should!
As a children's clothes shop owner -it's great they don't have a uniform .... as a mother it's awful.
My shop is across from a secondary school and the kids are soooo badly dressed - in summer mid-drifts out - jeans low cut and skin tight - expensive designer sports gear /shoes - girls in jewellery (lots) and make up. There are no rules - and I am sure this does not bode well for following rules later in life, when joining the work force.
It's also difficult for parents who are on a tight budget to dress their off spring in designer gear they cannot afford - so as they can fit in with their peers. Parents in Greece have too much to pay already because of the need for further education out of school (Languages/Maths/Ancient Greek) as the schools do not teach up to the required standard ....as well as paying for extracurricular activities inc sports and arts (music/dancing etc). VERY EXPENSIVE to have children in Greece! |

No, we don't.
ADDED: Now that I think of it, I do know a private school here in Athens that requires its students to wear uniforms. But it is definitely an exception, all public schools and the vast majority of private ones allow students to dress as they like. |
