Does anybody who is a regular in this section have pets? If so, how important are they in your life?

I have three dogs, two at home and one at my office. They have all been stray puppies until I collected them from the street. Noel and Foulques are of no special breed, Pit is a genuine and rare pitbull, which has been abandoned by some irresponsible owner. He's grown up in my Law Office, where he lives (sleeps on the couches), immitating my and my assinstats' behaviour.
My pets are very important for me. They know when I'm glad or sad and share my and their feelings...
On the other hand I do not believe that pets are just substitutes of human beings. My and Leonarda's parents have been excellent ones, but at the same time they loved animals and devoted their lives to giving confort and shelter to them, so do not feel embarassed for your sensitivity.
Apart from our pets I believe we must take care of all animals, at least the stray ones of our neighbourhood. Me and some other people feed stray cats and dogs, birds as well, and we are always ready to confront the ones that hate and abuse them...

My pets are right next to my children. I have 4 dogs and a pet Rhode Island Red chicken. When you care for animals the way some of us pet owners do, it really says a lot about us as a person. We have compassion, understanding, patience, & lots of love to give. We have in our hearts what most people do not. I can truly say I have never met a loving pet owner who is a bad person, and I really believe that being a pet owner shows a persons true colors.
Don't worry about what you might become as you get older. As long as you don't have more pets than you can take of, you are gonna be just fine. Just keep loving those wonderful, thankful, & worthy animals.

I have a femail cockatiel to most loving pet i have ever had.. My wife is a sound sleeper Miss Minni hollars when i stop breathing from sleep apnea..last nite she woke her when i had hypoglycema,,,I know she is my Angel sent from God.. all pets are like that, Pets in nursing homes are therapy.

One rottweiler, one doberman (OMG!!!), one tabby cat, one goldfish, two water turtles. I had a small land turtle, too, but crows got it.

And don't fret. You won't become Panter Emel. You like your pets almost like your kids, but when you want kids, you want kids and substitutes aren't enough.

Though, I am afraid I will be one of those seventy year-old ladies with seventy cats. I'm guessing, it will be very very smelly. :)

My dog was stolen - I miss her very much. I have had numerous pets in my life. When I let an animal into my life they became a member of the family. I had a dog[from a puppy] that lived with me for 12 yrs. I had to put him down he was so crippled up. Wished I had listened to him as he more than once tried to bite my ex.
Made the best "mom" to every baby creature, including my daughter, that needed his protection. That included an orphaned filly. 4 Banny chicks that my horse stepped on their mother - killing her, a few kittens and 2 bunnies.
Needless to say he was my best friend, went every where with me. I have had a lot of "pets"but only a few wiggle into my heart. Leaving their paw prints behind.
I don't know what this "Panther Emel" did but that is in future, this is now.

I have two cats. They're chocolate colored and they are both so weird! The one cat I have tries to walk like a human and thinks she is a dog. She fights with the cats in our neighborhood, and yet she's friends with the dogs and rabbits that are outside. Funny right? Then, my other cat is SO lazy, that he basically sleeps all day and goes out at night...just so he can fight with the neighborhood cats. Both my cats don't know how to meow correctly either. My girl cat goes, "urt" and the other goes, "row." I know, my pets are weird, but I've had them for many years and I love them because they are so different!

I don't want kids. But, I love cats. My cat of 11 years passed away last year. It was very hard on me. She was almost like my kid, like you said. My step-mom has another cat, his name is Tiger, he's older than me! He's 20 years old..it's getting harder for him to do things, but he's a fighter. He's my little buddy and it's going to be really hard when he passes since he's been around SO long.

My cats are important in my life because this is going to sound crazy to those people who don't really care for animals, but you can tell them anything. You don't get judged. They're ALWAYS there for you, even if you have to scold them or whatever. If you've had a bad day at work, sometimes them just coming up and recognizing that you're home makes you forget about your bad day.

Nor do I want to become the crazy lady with the 54839938 cats running around either. :P

I used to have a Dalmatian, he was like my brother, and after him, I started to think dogs are smarter than most of the people... I also believe that if you don't love animals, you cannot love people...

i used to have lots of pets like dog,gold fish and parrot but now i don't have any.
But i liked my parrot most.He lived with us for 2 years but he died because of being jealous,yes he was jealous of my new dog! Everything was normal sice we bought a new dog.Everything was ok for the parrot but of course i was more interested in with the dog.He got jealous and became sick and died :( i didn't even cried in my grand dad's funereal but i did when the parrot died.

I always wanted a kitty..But we live in a apartment flat so my parents didn't buy it...And maybe I wouldn't look after that cat very well because I'm really afraid of animals and I even can't look after myself! :-)

I love my pets. Right now I have two beautiful cats. One is a 2 year old tabby, named Boris. Then there is my beautiful 4 year old white Calico named Seela. She is very independent, he behaves like a puppy follows me everywhere. Having them in my life makes me happier than I would be without them. I have had many dogs and cats in my life. I can look back remember them all, and smile. They warm my heart. I do have a better quality of life with my pets.
